First time poster here, but thought I'd share this since I didn't see a lot of options when I went shopping to add a little bass.

This was done by Audio One in Chesapeake VA. I had some requirements, I needed it to be compact enough that I could still haul my scuba/cycling gear, and I wanted to be able to get to my spare with out having to do anything weird.

With the rebalance, it's just what I was looking for.

It's a 10TW3, and a JX5001D under the drivers seat.

looks good! I'm planning on building me one this spring/summer. Can you tell me how much they charged? Maybe I'll get a "pro" to do it. Also, what is the size of the box in cubic feet? It looks a little small for hard hitting low bass.

I have the same speaker in my spare wheel, mated with a Polk Audio PA880(800W) amp. Great speaker.
My setup is not beautiful at all, but hits very hard and it's completely out of my way. Not even visible. Spare wheel, provides more then enough cu/ft, for this speaker.

"In" you spare wheel or where your spare wheel used to be? Pictures please.

That looks great. How much parts and labor?

In the spare wheel.
It's not a nice setup, but it works great.

Under that round aluminum, there is a same size( Dia. 6") rubber, to seal the wheel completely.
I have already got compliments at stop lights.
I can max out my stereo(34 on Kenwood) and it still sounds nice and clean.
I also have a Polk Audio PA660 amp that powers the door speakers.
Stereo Kenwood DNN991HD
Front and back Infinity Primus components
Dash has Polk 3.5"
Speaker amp Polk Audio 660
Sub amp Polk Audio PA880
Sub JL Audio 10TW3-D4
Mini 0805 dashcam(soon, I will one in the back also)
Escort Redline radar detector
Side mirror camera + factory camera(will have a front one, soon)
Both amps, I have picked up broken from the bay, each $40 and I have repaired them.
Right now, I'm working on the wheels/tires, then alignment since I have dropped my car on Corcksport springs.

Hey that top picture and the sound is all that matters. Who cares what it looks like underneath. And under the circumstances I'd say that's a fine diy job. Well done.

Does the 6 still come with a subwoofer in the sapre tire? If so I wonder how hard it would be to install in the CX-5? I did a similar thing as the OP to my protege5 when i got it. Glasses a custom box into the rear side panel and fitted a 8" sub, it was just the boost in base that car needed. I'm on the fence on whether or not to move the setup over to the CX-5 and build a new box for it. The car is 4 days old and I really don;t want to take this apart already. That and the bose system isn't bad and kind of scares me to try to tap into it.

If you are interested in tackling it, you can use my tutorial <a href="http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123840777-Finally!-my-Aftermarket-Subwoofer-and-Amplifier-Integration-into-Bose-Audio-How-To"> here</a>

Fiberglass an enclosure it's very nice at the end(if it comes out nice), but it's a lot of work and probably very dirty.
It still sticks out and the subwoofer it's very vulnerable that way.
My setup, it was fast and super cheap. MDF it was around $12, Aluminum plate we had it at work, same goes for the rubber seal.
A little cutting, wire running and I have an awesome sounding(not looking) subwoofer. I won't be attending to shows with it, that is for sure.
I have measured with my phone, 83 dB at maximum volume.

It's definitely a limited air space, I don't know the exacts. It certainly won't blow your hair back, but it'll eventually shake my mirror loose.

Total cost, was $1,700, for the speaker, amp, wiring, custom box and install.

What's with the ratchet straps? I don't see the purpose of them? And what did you use as a seal against the rim of the spare tire? I could probably do something similar if I could find a way to seal the sub against the spare tire.

The straps are for that, to seal. MDF, against the tire rubber surface. It sounds awesome and I still have the spare, if I need it. I keep a wrench to open the bolt, that holds the spare to the car. Got rid of the big factory knob.
There is no room for the speaker grill though, just a heads up. I needed some spacer(2 x 4) between the speaker and the floor. Speaker grill, is taller then 2". The floor is raised now, ~ 2".

So how hard is it to get the sub and amp hooked into the bose system? do you just tap speaker wires and use a line converter to get the RCA's. I'm thinking of pulling the sub from my P5 and putting it in the CX-5. I just need to know how to go about wiring everything up.

I ordered the "PAC AOEM-MAZ2 Mazda Add An Amplifier Adapter" that plugs into the back of the head unit. there's 2 RCA outputs and a remote wire. I have a 2015 GT with bose
