16" RX-8 Wheels+ 225/50/R16 Tires on Protege5?

I currently have 4 RX-8 rims I purchased used. They are part #64867.

Wheel Specs

Rim Width: 7.5"
Rim Diameter: 16"
Offset: 50mm
Number of Bolts: 5
Bolt Pattern: 5x4.5

Question: Can I put 225/50/R16 tires on the RX-8 wheels and have them bolt to my stock ride height Protege5 without rubbing? If so, sweet. If not, what is the widest tire (and tallest/sidewall) I can mount on the wheels without rubbing issues?

Thanks in advance, everybody! Here is a picture of one of the wheels for reference.

the rims will bolt up just fine. double check brake and suspension clearance before you drive down the street. (i had 16x8 FD rx7 wheels on my protege, and only needed 3mm spacers)

as for tires... best size would be 215/45-16, but good luck finding a tire in that size. that's why i had to give up my FD rims. 225/50-16 will be a bit big and will likely require fender work to prevent rubbing. 205/50-16 would probably be your best bet.

Thank you for the information. 215/45/16 seems like a unicorn tire: limited selection+high price for an extra 10mm. I'll pick up some spacers just to be safe and send them back if not needed. To be clear, hub bore on the Protege and Protege5 is 67.1mm?

Last bit about extending the lug studs. OEM spec is 41-42mm at M12X1.50. So probably best to find new studs that are 44-45mm in length?

no need for extended studs with anything less than a 5mm spacer. hub bores are the same, too.
