What have you done to your CX-9 today?

@colnago1331 your Thule rack looks really nice on the 9! Did you need any new hardware or did it just swap straight over?

@eskimo0101 I like my D5300 quite a bit, but the new 5500 is even better, thanks to the touchscreen (first for a Nikon DSLR). everything else is the same though. Really lightweight body, good features and controls, happy with it so far. Side note, funny that EXIF data that sticks around, even if you post a direct link from photobucket, a little creeeeeepy :p

It just switched right over from my 6. It's the Thule Podium feet, square crossbars, and Fit Kit 3069. The 6 had fixed points for mounting hidden under its gutter trim strips.

When I first got back into photography a few years ago I got a D5100. It was great. But as with nearly everything else in my life I had to upgrade . . . first to a D7000, and now I've got a D600. I haven't made the leap to the D750 or D8xx . . . yet! :D

That 810 is seriously awesome :)

Nice! Everyone givin' their 9's some love.

I'm interested in more pictures of the hood deflector... That looks pretty nice and lower profile than the Mazda one... How do you like it with the break in the hood?

It looks clean which is what I wanted not to bulky like I had on other cars.

Thanks for the additional shot DoubleJ, that does look nice. Much cleaner than the OEM, especially on your black.

Bought my bride of 30 years a brand new M B GLA250 AWD for the CX-9 to share the garage with. She went from a Prius to this - and she no longer has to notify her car a day in advance to increase speed. 4 cylinder turbo hooked to a 7 speed tranny with paddles. The MB is a great runabout getting 25-29 so far (600 miles). Its a great little vehicle, but, when we need a set of muscles, or really want to go somewhere - the CX backs out of the garage! Nothing like the CX. I shared this because I had read, like you, that the next gen CX might be a four banger, and I cringed. But the MB has shown that the proper engine, correctly aspirated, with the right transmission can get the job done in spades.

Installed a new driver side front window motor that has been broken for some time. It feels nice to have a working window again.

Used my new hitch for the first time. Towed a pair of snowmobiles over to their summer storage at my moms.

Those GLA's are pretty interesting. I liked the R&T comparison test recently of it... It's so close to a tall wagon its funny... These CUVs really are just reverting back to whence they came, the wagon. As some users have slammed their CX-9's offset the wheels to fill out, these really do look like wagons again. As you can tell from my sig, I'm more than happy about this transformation :)

Supplying the CX9 with a turbo 4 banger sounds like an awful idea. Your MPGs will be wasted keeping the revs high to keep this mass moving.

Yep, but it's where everyone is going, including the new Explorers, and the feedback so far has been good-ish... I have confidence that Mazda would be able to produce a 300 hp 2.5L turbo 4, but I don't know if that's going to cut it with fuel economy. But real world fuel economy isn't the only consideration. If it can skate through the EPA tests, it doesn't matter that you get 22 mpg in the real world having to wring the thing to 5 grand all the time.

I'm a 100% believer in "weight is the enemy". Everything gets better when you lower the weight (handling, braking, acceleration)... I think this thing will need a serious diet before they can claim "SkyActiv", regardless of the engine.

Volvo just pushed out a turbo and supercharged 2.0L four making 316 hp and 295 ft-lb, assisted by an extra 82hp electric at the back. The thing will hustle, and get great fuel economy, but it's ridiculously expensive for the rest of us. Mazda has said they aren't thinking hybrid (at least not developing their own), and I applaud their efforts at efficiency in the Otto cycle... It's logical and keeps complication down (and hopefully maintenance for owners).

It'll make 300 hp at 5k RPM though and real world MPG is crap, just as an ecoboost F-150 owner. Reducing weight comes at a serious price (exotic/expensive materials) and then people will complain about the increase in price and that is doesn't have such an such or look how cheap the interior is. The new F-150 really didn't get an increase in MPG as everyone was hoping, just the towing capacity increased by the weight it lost.

Yep, this is why I mentioned weight, as everyone gets hung up on the engine.
Sky-Activ is a platform thing, not one aspect:

The next gen CX9 will be on a major diet compared to the current Ford based one. Next gen will be 500+ pounds lighter, and be a turbo 4 im sure. And these are all steps forward i believe.

Agreed^

Now back to the thread! Got the "first" oil change done on the 9 at the dealership (I had already done a 600 mile one myself in the driveway). Only reason I took it there was they include lifetime oil changes with the car, so figured I'd do it for a little while ;-)

also, this numerical fun occurred:

Have a great day fellow Niners! (drinks)

I agree, and in reading on down the thread, it's hardly logical that Mazda would (1) try to power this battleship with a 4 - meaning significant redesign changes, and cost. Or (2) design something that suddenly wasn't fun to drive and couldn't "hunt" down Nissan's and the like. Mazda does not seem like a company looking for ways to self administer a lobotomy. In Volvo's case, I am not seeing how an electric hooked to a turbo (of that size) is really going to benefit anyone but the marketing department. More weight, more parts, more maintenance, more noise - where does it all end? As to MIXER'S comments about the F150, while I am not a candidate for a pick up, it looks to me like the Dodge brothers have it going right now.

Replaced the drivers side window run (the main rubber seal that goes around the window) hoping it would eliminate the slight wind noise I was getting. Took about 30 minutes and happy to report the window is silent now.

This thread helped a lot with getting the door apart. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123737403-Door-Panel-Removal

As well as this one:

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123799958-Window-weather-stripping-in-door

did you replace it with OEM rubber seal?

Yep, some Mazda dealer on ebay, cost $55 shipped. I thought about taking it back to my dealer since it's got the bumper to bumper certified warranty but with the wind noise being so minor I figured it wasn't worth arguing with them about if it was normal or not. Plus the hassle of dropping the car off etc.

I lied about the 30 minutes though. It SHOULD have been 30 minutes, but I forgot to reconnect one wiring harness and the door lock/unlock didn't work when I got done and went to test everything. 15 minute stupidity penalty to take the door panel back off, snap the connector on, and put the panel back on. :)

nice eskimo0101, seems to be sitting pretty level too (though a little hard to tell in the shadows)
