Ready to build my MazdaSpeed

TurboJ1 is right, I still have all of my gauges. turn signal, flashes etc.......You will have to upgrade your transmission as well, sooner, rather than later......if you are goingto do this do it right the first time. It will save you money in the long run and you won't be chasing your tail trying to get this done so quickly.....

Yes indeed TurboJ1

Here is the plan as it stands
1. Select EMS for what I need.
2. Find out where in the world MP3Racer DocB is hiding.
3. Spare engine will be in machine shop getting clean and measured so I can order Rods, Pistons, bearings.
Spare head in shop port polish.
3.5 port match intake polish and did someone say ceramic coat... why?
4. find cams or maybe just stay with stock Mazda speed for the mean time...things are getting wild.
collect parts hard pipes/ gauges/ motor mounts/ etc etc

Feel free to keep making suggestions i'll be reading. Thanks everyone this is going to be fun.
I will post pictures with each upgrade.

I'm almost certain MP3Racer is not ignoring you, I honestly believe it's because it's race season and he must have a lot going on. I'd keep pm'ing him....
As far as a standalone goes I have a MICROTECH which works but I consider the HALTECH somewhat of an upgrage. OK,so if I were you I'd definitely go for the Haltech 1000. You can do open/close loop tuning ( if you're concerned about getting GREAT gas mileage this is an awesome feature) you have so many other inputs that can all be controlled/monitored by the Standalone itself...BUT like I said earlier the Sprint 500 is more than capable....I was just about to ask if you have emissions in your state then I saw you're in FLORIDA!!!! You lucky MoFo lol!.....I'd ceramic coat the EXHAUST manifold and down pipe to keep engine bay temps down especially in FL. If you decide to have this done DO NOT go with anyone else but SWAIN COATINGS!!!!.....you are fine using stock cams for now.
You haven't said what your power goals are as of yet, that will determine what size turbo you should get.
Also, google "WPC TREATMENT"

Perro so far he looks like he's on the right track.........If he starts going sideways we'll have to check him! LOL!

Hey Guys,
My weekend is wrapping up so here is the progress update.

My buddy and I installed my oil pressure gauge and the pressure at idle 500 RPMS was 18psi much better then I expected.
1000 was 25psi and 6000 was 55psi struggling to get higher.
So the car is not starving for oil even with the amount of miles on it.

I am still looking into my standalone EMS, 1500 for 1 upgrade is hard to swallow, then again everyone says it is the single best upgrade
you can do. And it supports every other upgrade. I lean towards the 1000 because I am told it can do closed loop which correct me if I am wrong, that basically helps me create
a base tune.?.? I sure there are guys here that could hook me up with a base line tune as well.

I have a question too, Today when I was under the car I saw a free\open port on the down pipe before the cat, can I install my wideband there until I upgrade my exhaust?

I kind of like the Microtech, they have a new kit that has the ECU, 4x igniter and 4 bosch direct fire coils for 1295
not as many inputs and outputs as the Haltech 1000 but the Microtech comes with a base line tune form the factory.
So wire everything up and turn the ignition. What do you all think.
TurfBurn you said you have installed both any thoughts?

But at 160,000 miles, maybe you should consider a different turbo.. there's a good chance your stock one doesn't have a lot of life left in it. Besides, if you're gonna drop the cash to build your engine and get a standalone, you can easily accommodate a bigger turbo to make real power. Don't restrict yourself to T2 setups either, if you're in the market for a new turbo manifold then keep T3 flange setups in mind too, people like to restrict themselves to T2 flange turbos because they're "stock replacement", but there are plenty of amazing T3 flange turbos out there that are both cheaper and build boost better than their T2 counterparts.

Plus, you can get a T3 manifold AND matching downpipe from Speed Circuit, whereas T2 manifolds and DPs are essentially extinct by now...

I here that but I have had a real hare time finding a aftermarket manifold like the steedspeed. I did however find the exhaust I was looking for. the Virbrent 3in

Lets get some pics bro. Im in Orlando, FL right next door. lol. Heres mine:

After a nice detail decided to take these.

suby s204 lip coming in 3-4 weeks.

I'm altering my plans a bit I am going to get my exhaust before my ECU. Pope is making his Down pipe and I don't want to miss out on that 3in downpipe since I want to go with a 3in exhaust all the way back. I just have to deside between a corksport 3in catless or a Vibrant 3in with a high flow cat.
I will put pictures up soon. I start my weekend later this morning :)

Agreed, I like his attitude, asking the right questions and taking the advice to heart. Not wasting our time, like so many others who don't and then go ZZB and then blame everyone else, because they did not listen to veterans who've been through it all!

If you are going with a standalone and 3" DP and turboback exhaust, you will be better off going catless. Even hi flo cats are a bit restrictive. Another Haltech Option is the 500 Series, it all epends on what your future plans are for the car.

Some cars make more power with a high-flow cat because an open exhaust won't have enough back pressure. Not to mention dyno tests prove high flow cats lose no more than 2-3hp.

Update: Had an emergency with my Brothers Protg 5 on Friday. Tire Side wall was cut on both sides and he was out of oil.
Investigation reviled a loose or bad washer on the oil plug. As far as the tire goes he most of hit a pot hole because he broke the tie rod off of the strut at the weld.
He said he was checking the oil but must not have been often enough. Pissis me off that car is a champ. 2002 140 miles my sister drove it before him and I did all the maintanace until she moved away. Any how my buddy and I had to work with the kids budget. I got two used tires for the front and new struts. Larger oil filter and fresh oil car doest shutter anymore. If he doesn't drive the thing into the ground my buddy and I have grand NA aspirations for the car Zoom Zoom.

I did get to work on my project on Saturday. We went to LKQ and pulled 5th gear form a poor 626 that still had its 16in Icon Racing wheels locked on with tamper resistant lugs. If thay were 17in I would have found a way to get them off the car. I can't help but think that the owner lost the socket and couldn't get them off the car as all tires were down to the belt. I am contiplating going back for the whole transmission to have as a backup. The condition pointed to a resent rebuild. What do you guys think.

No news on the exhaust... manifold and down pipe on their way, and I have a email out to vibrant to see if they can bend me a catless exhaust. Thay haven't had the Turbo back exhaust for the protege for a long time. But I figured why not ask them. I just love the sound of it. the cork sport is two loud. I would have to go cat just in hopes to mellow it a bit.
okay back to work...............

Hold your horses lol, I will start taking pics on this weekend. I just feel like there isn't any progress yet.
I did get an e-mail from Vibrant. They said that once a product is discontinued they can not remake it.
I was a smart ass and replied saying "oh I didn't know you could forget how to bend pipe and weld flanges". I'm guessing that they may have made the proto type and then china or somebody built it in mass.
Thursday I will stop at a local turner shop RawBrokage in Orlando. They do mostly Nissan but Mazda is a passion for them too.
They should have polished 304 stainless instock as well as be able to help get the sound I want.
They sale HalTech and tune so I can get info on that.

Later guys

Bad news guys 😭 my thermostat froze closed radiator blew. That was last week...this week today actually, my clutch just took a hugh dump on me.
Top all off that off with Pope hasn't replied to me on the status of my paid for down pipe and manifold.
Well I should end this post with good news, I actually met a girl who is a mechanic and got some on my bday last week. I also officially made the last payment on the car.

P.S. I was thinking a spec stage two clutch to go with my fendenza fly wheel.
Thoughts... Says it's good for 350HP whtch I decided on as my power goul.
P.p.s people are trying to tell me I need to buy a new car.

dam that sux bro. Well back to square one. I told you that radiator wudnt hold on. that radiator was struggling. lol. props on the girl. You need to release that energy from time to time. lol. Lemme know how the repairs go
