Low Beam Headlight issue

I am a first time Mazda owner having purchased a 2011 CX9 GT a couple of months ago - I love this car. Love, love, love everything about it. But... I am wondering about the low beam headlights. At night there is a severe demarcation line between darkness and lighting at eye level. It looks like someone drew an imaginary line and the headlights illuminate no higher than eye level and everything above that is darkness. It is very unsettling at night, especially on unlit back roads. I have tried adjusting the headlights by moving the button next to the lift gate button, but that doesn't help much. Is this normal? Is there anything that can be done to help this issue? Thank you.

Yes. I see you have a GT. It is normal due to xenon headlights.
To avoid blinding the on-coming traffic, it has sharp cut-off.

However, there is a white adjustment knob and you can adjust them higher if you want, just don't adjust them so high that they hit oncoming traffic too high.
