Nice work! How's that light bar look at night? Any pic of the LED gear shifter?

CX-9 shift knob specs are M8 x 1.25 threads (90mm long)

thanks for the compliment 911jason, I'll take LED light bar and shift knob pics later tonight when it gets dark,

here is some stock pictures of the shift knob

https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

because the CX-9 uses the gated type shifting instead of the ones where you have to push a button first,
it's really easy to swap out the knobs, just rotate counterclockwise to loosen the old knob and spin on the new one.
you can use any knob as long as it's M8 x 1.25, I went with the shortest height (90mm),
they also have 105mm but that looks way to tall on the CX-9

also, you want the smooth grain leather like the link above, the suede version looks ugly

this is the suede version, I don't like it

Does it have to be plugged in all the time? Or just to charge every once in awhile?

light bar

I like the light bar in the front, how much work was that to get there?

Hi jlanger,

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, it was a pain the in the a** to get the light bar in there,

There is a crossbar in the front to mount the light but not enough room to get a drill in
there to make some mounting holes for the light.

I had to use hose clamps (worm-drive type) and c-clamps to secure the lights to the crossbar
instead of the normal mounting holes.

And once I got the darn thing in there; the space is so tight that the light started banging up against the frame
every time I hit a bump during driving. I had to stick on some adhesive velcro between the lights and the frame
to dampen the banging.

I suggest you remove the front undercarriage plastic cover (this is very easy; just some screws and a couple of panel fasteners, note: you don't need to jack up the car; there is enough clearance) and see what you are working with.

Nice work, it's cool to see some new ideas.

Shift knob is cool, however you do find it to be bothersome at all while driving at night? Can you turn the LED off on it?

Glad I'm not the only one who has to watch Frozen a few hundred times.

LOL, my 4 yo daughter has seen Frozen at least 50 times start to finish, seriously.

I don't find the knob the LED bothersome at all, it is not ON all the time,
the shift knob is touch activated, the chrome area can sense your palm
and lights up momentarily for only 10 seconds then goes OFF automatically.

It's only on all the time if you drive in "M" mode and constantly shifting between "+" and "-"

There is no ON/OFF switch; just the sensor in the chrome area and
also the power cable does not need to be attached for it to work.

Just need to connect it on a long road trip (~ an hour) and the
LED will last for about two weeks w/o the cable (activated by the touch sensor)
on that one hour charge.

I find it very handy in dark parking garages.

see here for demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pFFl3_cSqU

you can see what I mean about the auto on and auto off and also no cable attached,

the installation is the same on the CX-9 spin old knob counterclockwise to remove and spin on the new one clockwise

Those Hella projector fogs... Did you put HIDs in them or are they running halogen... I would love to HID the factory fogs, but as they are not projector type I'm probably going the VLED route... 2100 lm/bulb ain't bad :)
