Temperature gauge in 3rd Gen Protege cluster

Let me start off with a little background, four years ago my ZM-DE hydrolocked after I went into a flooded street with a cold air intake (yes, dumb idea). I changed it to a KF-ZE from a Mazda Lantis Type R. Right now my gauge cluster doesn't use the tach and the temp gauge. For the tach, it's because I get a 1.5x reading as my new engine has 6 cylinders so I'm using an external tach but for the temp gauge, the electrician who did my wiring before said that the signal comes from the ECU so he recommended that I install an external temp sensor and gauge which is what I am doing now.

Anyone know if I can connect an external temp sensor to the gauge cluster's temp gauge? I'd like to do away with the external gauges on my car to make it look more OEM.

A diagram for the gauge cluster would help.
