New Mazda and 2014 Touring CX-9 owner

Just drove home with the new car last night; Red 2014 CX-9 Touring with Tech (yay 0%) It'll primarily be the wife's and our twins ride.

My wife chose it because it drives like a smaller vehicle and I think she's right. Very attractive suv, haven't gotten used to the new controls/nav (it keeps trying to talk to me). I like it because odds are on long trips, I'll be driving it and it's actually fun to drive!

I do have to wonder though, what is inside that center console? It's humongous.

I cannot say it drives like a smaller vehicle, but definitely not like (and much-much-much better than) 4x4 SUV with solid axles.

Congrats on the new CX-9! I have a 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring and I love it!

I never feel like I'm driving a large vehicle most of the time. It's light years ahead of the SUVs I had before it...

Congrats and welcome! How did you score 0%? Is there a new incentive? I bought our 2014 last October and best I could get was 0.9% but I guess it was considered fresh off the line.

Currently, Mazda is offering 0% for 24-60 months or 1.9% for 72 months. There is $3500 in Dealer Cash but it cant be combined with the 0%-1.9% Special APR. The Dealer Cash incentive is $1250 with the Special APR financing.

Usually the 24-60 month Special APR financing is 0.9% on most models. But CX-9 sales are much lower for the first three months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013. As of March 31, 2014, YTD sales were only 4,896 units versus 8,991 at the same time last year.

The 0% APR offer is obviously a great deal, but buyers would be wise to avoid the 1.9% for 72 month offer. At 0% for 60 months, there is $0 interest on the loan and payments for $35k would run around $583/month. Stretching the loan to 72 months at 1.9% interest would only reduce payments to about $515/month, BUT is would cost about $2100 in interest!

When I bought my 2012 CX-9 in 11/2012, they were only offering 0.9% for 24-36 months. I was planning to pay cash for the entire purchase, but they had a $1000 cash incentive tied with the 0.9% financing. So I financed $10k for 36 months at 0.9% to get the additional $1000 incentive.

Im toying with the idea of trading my 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring FWD for a 2014 model. I love the look of the 2014, especially in the new Blue Reflex color, and the discounts are deep on the 2014s right now also. I priced a 2014 CX-9 Grand Touring FWD, Blue Reflex w/ Black Leather, GT Technology Packing and Towing Prep Package for $31,305 after the Owner Loyalty Discount. Thats $7,095 off sticker! Those are good incentives! I almost wish I waited. I absolutely love the new styling though. As for the GT FWD price that's a deal! I would want the AWD though living in the Northeast for me.

I totally agree about the 1.9% over 72. If I can't pay a car off in 5yrs then I have no business buying it. If it was 0% then its a different story.

To the OP...we are going to order our 2014 GT in Red with Sand leather this week! Couldn't decide between the white and red, but the wife finally decided to go with red.
Not sure yet about the financing, may just go with the Credit Union rather than the dealers financing... looking forward to replacing our minivan with something a bit more sporty, yet still practical!

Congratulations on the new car! How do you like it so far? My wife and I are also planning to buy CX-9 Touring FWD with Tech for our twins who are due in 2 months!. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the car for and from which area/city did you buy it?

If you are planning to install 2 infant car seats in the CX-9, I hope you don't have any plans to use the middle seat in the 2nd row or the 3rd row at all.

We are actually planning to install the seats in the 2nd row - middle seat and one side seat. I guess the reason you mentioned it is because the middle seat in 2nd row does not have the tether anchors? We were planning to use the seat belt to install the seat in middle.

Not only the lack of anchors, but the width of the middle seat is probably not sufficient for a standard size car seat. I can't even put my son's backless booster seat in the middle next to our toddler's car seat.

I'd just hate to see you buy this car and then realize you can't set it up the way you like. Make sure you take the car seats with you to the dealer and see how they will fit before you sign on that dotted line! =)

Great point, thanks for the info! I will take the car seats to the dealer and check if they fit next to each other in 2nd row. After a lot of back and forth between minivan and suv we decided to go for an SUV. If the seats don't fit the way we want, then minivan will be back in the consideration again...

That's the main reason I wanted the new Toyota Highlander. It's available with 7 or 8 passenger seating. If you choose the 7-passenger setup, there are captains chairs in the 2nd row which allows easy walk-through access to the third row, like a minivan. Unfortunately, to get a similarly equipped model comparable to the CX-9 GT, I was going to be close to $42k and at the time I purchased, dealers weren't negotiating much on the new Highlander which had only hit dealer lots a few weeks earlier. I am yet to go to the dealer with the car seats, but after discussing this with my wife she feels that she can sit in the middle and have the babies on the sides. I am not sure if there will be enough space for her to sit comfortably with this configuration.

I highly doubt it. Unless you get very narrow car seats. I'm really not trying to be negative, just would hate for you to make such a potentially big mistake. We have 7 kids, ranging from 1-21 yrs, and my wife wants 1 more. We know if we do have another one, the 1 yr old (who will be at least 2 by that point) will have to be moved to the 3rd row, which will mean installing the seat without the LATCH anchors.

I went to the dealer to check out the space in 2nd row with car seats on either side. It is definitely tight, but my wife thinks she will be fine. She really really wants this car and convincing a pregnant woman carrying twins in her 8th month is definitely not easy! So I ended up finalizing the deal - we got a CX-9 Grand Touring with no tech, FWD in white pearl with roof rails(pre-installed) for $29,254

Do folks on here suggestion getting the prepaid maintenance/service plan? I am getting 5 year/75K plan for $1480 including taxes.

Congrats! Glad you made an informed decision! Pretty much the same model I got, except ours is Meteor Gray. Did you get the black or tan interior?

Mine is a 4-year lease, so I got the 4-yr maintenance plan for $995. They initially offered it at around $1300 or $1400, and when I balked at that price, she asked if I was a Costco member and because I was said she could sell it for the $995 price.

do you guys know if the maintenance plan is transferable?

the previous owner (purchased new) purchased a maintenance plan and i asked the finance guy whether it transferred and he said it didn't.

but he kind of gave me a look like, "how did he know about that?? let me make up an answer and explanation real quick..."

i take it to a different (closer) dealer for maintenance but i would have kept going there if it was free.
