The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

Also, the human eye is most sensitive to blue light (which these have more of even if they don't look blue).

I think I know what you're trying to say, but you got the wording wrong. Actually, the human eye is least sensitive to blue and most sensitive to green in the 550nm region. You were probably thinking that our eyes 'notice' changes in the mixture of blue more easily compared to the other colors because of the overall dynamic range of our blue sensitivity is lower.

hi guys, does anybody has successful change his HID headlight to LED headlight with hi/lo beam??? i found out that vled have selling those kit but they didn't have plug and play kit, need to modify wiring.

If you change your highbeam which is your day time running light I think output will be affected. I'm wondering this as well though. I'm thinking hid liw beam/fog lights.

i'm driving 2014 cx5, my DRL was p13, and HI/LO beam was using D4s HID now..... consider change the HID to LED headlight

1. Strictly LED headlight and foglight upgrade:
Brand comparisons, CREE vs SMD tower, etc., PnP (Plug and play), retrofits.

Can we please no? Swapping the halogen, or HID with an LED is asking for trouble. Not only is the headlight not designed for that bulb swap, it can glare other drivers. There hasn't been much luck swapping HID with LED bulbs. Light output isn't nearly as good as a good HID.
If the stock isn't good to you, swap to a better bulb, or ballast. PLEASE! PnP LEDs do NOT belong in cars yet. They can not match the point light source that the headlight is design for.
Can't say much about fogs...I never use um.

2. Other bulbs: cabin, vanity, trunk, blinkers, side markers, etc.
We can talk about resistors, relays, hyperflash issues, mounting, etc. Superbrightleds vs vled vs jdmtoy (which by now, is on the blacklist), ebay, amazon, etc. The size of 29mm festoons being easier to install than 31mm, where the tabs are for removing covers, etc.

This would be a good thread to start, Stating the year! I see the front of this thread is for a certain year. I don't know if I want to spend hours hunting down what the differences are for the '16 :)

Are the basic lights that the Touring comes with adequate enough? I really don't want to upgrade or spend more on the tech pkg.

The H11 Halogen projectors in the non-tech packages are more than sufficient. No where close to OEM bi-xenon's, but far better than the typical halogen reflectors and even most projectors with turd HID plug and play kits.

+1

I know this thread is getting long, but I read and sifted through most of it, but I wanted to led out my lights, I have the 2015 GT with the tech package. I ordered most of the lights and then was reading about needing resistors to for the led lights so the car can recognize that the light is actually there due to needing lower voltages. So I went ahead and ordered resistors for all the lights thinking that I would need them. The last thing I am trying to figure out is how to mount the resistors. I have seen people use the tap screws, but I do not want to go down that road I feel like I will mess something up. What have others used? Zip ties? will those melt? The other alternative I was looking at was a https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) But I am not sure how permanent that is? Would like to be able to remove it if I have any issues with the resistors.

Parts list: (used page 1 reference list to build it)

No resistors could not find any in this size, would have to do a custom job if needed

Resistors for these are the same

Did not order any specifically apparently same size as the rear side markers so I can use those if they need them and leave the original side makers for now

2016 Cx5 GT. Hate the interior trunk light. Help a brotha out. Need something more powerful but don't like the white colour of the LED light. What am i to do?

Hate the warm white or the cool white? No other LED colors work for you? If you are willing to cut plastic and tap wires, you can always add another stock light.

I don't like the white light. I like the colour that comes with the car (more yellowish), but wish it was stronger.

They do make amber versions, but that is going to be a lot more yellow than stock. I have white LED in the back of my Ford Edge, but when I get around to replacing the map lights in the front, I might go with red. They will be brighter, but the red will take some of the glare off. My old BMW had an orange tint to all their interior lights.

If you really want to get hardcore, you could always try to find larger festoon light fixture and replace the whole unit with that. I think getting another Mazda light socket, splicing it in and running it to another location might be a cleaner install.

There're low-priced LEDs having 2800K color temperature which looks like the same as standard incandescent bulb but can be brighter. I found this https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) for vanity mirror on the sun visors for "warm glow" effect which looks the same as OEM light but brighter:

Just ordered. Let's hope it's brighter otherwise I'm finding you for my $2 back!!!!
;)

Cheers guys, thanks!
It'd be brighter than OEM bulb for sun visor vanity mirror with warm white light that I can assure you. But I'm satisfied with these eBay white LEDs for other interior light applications. If you're not satisfied, you can always ask for the refund from these sellers. I've had good experiences with those sellers from China. They'd either giving up the products if there is something wrong with full refund, or re-send the correct products for free! Sometimes I really don't know how they can make any money by doing this, selling at such a low price with free shipping! The only drawback is it takes longer time, 3~4 weeks to receive the products.

Oh crap - is this the bulb for the sun visor or the trunk light?

If it's for the sun visor, no big deal as I find that light inadequate too.

Do you have one for the trunk light, or is it the same?

Just replaced mine with this set:
https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

I took some RAW photos of before and after with my DSLR in manual mode (same zoom, aperture, shutterspeed, ISO, base curve, and white balance). I'd say that the LED bulbs are not any brighter than the stock bulbs, but I prefer them not too bright for safety, and they use less energy. Though, I'm looking for a brighter bulb for the cargo (on the inner side of the tailgate), any suggestion?

The set came with two pairs for the license plate, I installed the smaller/dimmer one. Both pairs are not bright enough to affect the backup cam.

Stock bulbs:

LED bulbs:

Will this set work on a 2016 gt model ?

All CX-5 interior LED kit will fit 2016 MY. I use this https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned) from eBay because they use newer and brighter 5730 rectangular LED chips:

I did install license plate LEDs from the kit. They look nice with white color and aren't brighter than original 5W bulbs. I also used two "spare" bulbs for reverse lights. They look much better with white color but the light outputs are not stronger than original 18W 921 bulbs.

Personally I'd like to find 29mm festoon LEDs to match the original bulb length but those are hard to find for cheap prices and it's more difficult to put in 4 or 6 LED cells for brighter light. With 31mm LEDs you have to bend some end and side clips a bit but it's doable and won't hurt anything. Also be aware the "prying tool" included in some Amazon or eBay kits is useless! It's too thick and sometimes you're better off by having two pries to pop open the light cover. I use this prying toolset From China with decent results:

Did the license plate replacement light have a negative impact on the rearview camera ?

Do you have the link for the prying kit ?

Thks for the info!

Btw, why did u use the 2800k warm white lights for tje vanity and not the ones from the 1st kit ?

Too bright ?
