    Turbo part question?

Can anyone tell me what this braided hose is used for. Looks to be going from the turbo to somewhere on the back side of the motor. It had a hard black shell on it originally but now it is coming off. Does it harm anything if it comes off? Currently I'm getting a p0455 and a p171 error codes.

Answer : look at post 7. click here

So what is or was the purpose of the hard plastic coding around the braided hose? As you see in the pic, the heat has taken its toll on the plastic and now it's starting to crumble to pieces. The car itself doesn't drive any different. Just trying to confirm that this doesn't have anything to do with my p0455/p0171 error code that I have.
    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I'm asking about the function more than removing. So with that being said is there a down side to not having the plastic coating on the line?

Mine is flaking off on my car as well, you don't need to worry. P0171 indicates a vacuum leak, P0455 is a leak in the EVAP system could be caused by a faulty gas cap.
