Is pump supposed to be that loud?

I posted this in wrong subsection, maybe I'll have some response here

I understand it's a subjective question, but how exactly loud is the high pressure fuel pump supposed to be? Son bought 08 MS3 Hatch, and it's the loudest device under the hood.

They are not cheap, and my concern is - is it sign of it going bad any time soon, or just let it be?

It is cam driven and mechanical. Not electric.

OK, that explains clicking noise. Cam driven, hah.. Just like on my 1972 Moskvitch, ha-ha.
