All brakes light out???

I just had some one pull up at a light and tell me my brake lights are not working. The first thing I thought of was the fuse. When I got home I checked the fuses and all are good. My check engine light is on and the manual says one of the causes is an electrical problem. Does anyone know what the problem of fix is for this. I did replace the bulds to no avail.
To top it off I also have the traction and ABS lights on.............

Get the CEL code pulled at an AP store that does it free. I would also check all the grounds in the brake light area. unusual that both go out at the same time. Are you sure you checked the correct fuses?
