OK. If both your cardkeys fail to open the doors (any doors), but you are able to start engine w/o inserting key,
that could only be one possibility: the ECU is broken. It is unlikely that all sensors failed together, and both cards
failed together also. Something is wrong with the ECU that communicates with door sensors. You would be dealer's
diagnostic handheld computer to dig in more.

Do you think an OBD reader would spit out a code. Neighbor has one and I am thinking on trying it. All I should have to do is plug it in and turn on the car correct?

Brought the car to a service department and they isolated it to an antenna. The part is on order and will be here in 10 or so days. Hopefully that solves the issue.

Part arrived and brought the car back to the service department. They replaced the keyless entry antenna located at the hitch. Key light went away and the system works like it should again. So happy!!!!!!!!!!

I would bet that in areas near salt water or in areas with a good amount of plowing and road salting that these units will go bad on cars that drive in these areas, being that it is pretty exposed to the outside elements. I believe all the other antennas are shielded from direct contact with road spray/grime.

Not to mention that if you bottom out at your hitch it will rip the sensor off. Just saying'.

I can't explain why a broken back sensor could prevent one from entering the doors also.
I guess you learn something new everyday....

And, you are right, the rear antenna is the only one exposed to weather elements.... good luck to us all.

Yes it was really weird. It also caused confusion with the remote. Sometimes I had to press the remote 5 times before the car would respond (even with new FOB battery). I also tried completely disconnecting the rear sensor because I had a suspicion it was faulty and the "key" light/error did not go away.

I think I got it now.
The sensors work together to determine your present location (near left, near right, or near hatch).
It is like triangulation. When one is down, your present location is undetermined.
The "light" just tells you that there is a system self-check error.

I, too have this problem on my 08. Since my vehicle is out of warranty and the dealer is 120 miles away, is there any way to determine which sensor is malfunctioning? I am very capable with a digital multi-meter and auto troubleshooting.

can you tell us the cost of the antenna fix? Can I purchase the antenna and fix myself?

You should never keep a smart key in the same pocket as your cell.
