Hello fellow members, My name is Brad.

I have been a member for some time and have now gone through two MSP's, so i figured it was about time i posted up a build thread. :)

I have always owned a protege. A 1996 Protege DX to be exact. She was my first car and she has taught many of my friends to drive manual. But I really caught the Mazda bug after i got the s**** of dealing with my Subaru and we boosted my friends (no-zoom2002) 2002 Protege ES with my stock subi turbo. After parting out the Subi i began my search.

No-zoom2002's 2002 Protege ES TD04 Boosted.

On April 20th i found her. A 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege in Sunlight Silver. She had 58k on her and I picked her up for an outstanding 9k!... i know, i got ripped. But i had to have it!

The day i brought it home.

Modded.

The car remained mostly stock, except for a front mount intercooler and an Injen CAI. I drove the car for roughly a year and then i began to run into financial problems. Needless to say i had to get rid of the Speed but not before i found my true gem... :)

I was searching craigslist for a 2001-2003 protege, i was going to just snag one up for cheap in hopes of being able to do a speed conversion when money got good again. I gave myself a limit if $3000.00. I figured id be able to get a decent one at that price. I found several in my area but one ad caught my attention... The ad had no pictures of the car and all it really said was, "call for details." So i figured id start with that one and get it out of the way. THANK GOD I DID!

I called and asked the simple questions, whats wrong with the car, hows the condition of the body, how many miles... yada yada yadah! Come to find out the car is a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege in titanium! It had 84k on it with a blown motor. The guy was asking $3500.00 and within ten minutes of our conversation he dropped it to $2500!! I asked for pictures of the car and on July 13 2010 she was on my trailer headed to her final home! :)

A picture i received from the seller.

The car had a Turbohoses hardpipe kit, an Injen CAI and a Greddy Turbo timer. Needless to say i sold EVERYTHING i could from this car.

First day home i unloaded her off the trailer and into No-zoom2002's garage where tear down began. We removed everything from the car so we could see what we had to work with an i wanted it to pretty much be a brand new car for me. Shortly after I started to order parts and slowly shes coming together. :)

Loaded up and coming home!

We got most of the car stripped as soon as we unloaded it into No-Zooms grams garage. Due to making sure we werent taking up to much space we had to put as much of the parts in or under or on top of the car. :p

No-Zoom2002's when we brought the car there. His car in the yard, my old speed in the garage and the new on the trailer...beautiful sight if you ask me. :)

Thanks! I ditched the subaru after i blew it up three times. routine maintenance was also just a pain in the ass on the boxer. And i dont know about your area but ours is effing PACKED with subies... seriously. so i wanted something a bit more unique. i loved my subaru i learned alot about the forced induction world with it. had alot of fun.

When she blew the second time. THis is the only good exterior shot i have of it at the moment but it looked pretty much the same minus the spoiler.

Exciting stuff bro! Crazy Subbie! There's only like one or two that have came close to that kind of power with the proteges that i know of.

Subbed^^

Thanks man. :) I'm not looking for big power with my protge I'm shoot for a main goal of 250whp. The hardest thing I need to figure out is I want full interior and only weigh 2500 pounds. Well see.

That's exactly what I'm looking for... safe. I know how picky our cars are and I just want something ouick, safe, and fun. I just want to be able to enjoy it. My Subaru all I cared about was big numbers and I never got to enjoy the car because I was always worried about breaking it.

THanks guys. i havent had much time to work on it lately. ill work on getting pictures up either tomorrow or sunday.

UPDATESSSS!!! Woo! actually got time to work on the car a bit today... this snow BS has lit a fire under my ass, i want it to run and drive before it goes away for the winter. So i spent time today and my friends dad helped me with turning my thunder mani into an external wastegate set up and it turned out GREAT! ill have more pictures up shortly. :)

Nice! I hope that i'd be able to run 250WHP. I'd definitely be happy with that. Check out my build sometime if you'd like.

Got the manifold finished today. it came out great im really happy with it. lets hope we can get the speed up and running by friday! :)

Drilling the hole. EEEPPPPPPPP!

damn brad, john really knows what he is doeing with that. looks really good, alot better than the pic on my phone. i could hardly see the details. thank go the speed will be leaving there soon, before it catches something from all those subaru's

Spent a little time on the speed today before it got dark. Found out my wastegate dump tube hits my hot side piping... so ill be taking care of that hopefully tomorrow. i could always clock the turbo but i really like the u pipe in the engine bay... so well see how that goes. nothing left to do now except finish the turbo stuff, plumb the coolent and oil lines, relocate the battery, wire the SSAFC and fire the beast up!

oh... and run all my vacuum line. if anyone could tell me where all vacuum needs to go that would be very helpful.

brad thats pretty awesome dude good work. very articulate you showed the stages up close i personally didnt know the msp's interior was laid out like that,
the dead pedal and some other small things are different from RHD.
