Knocking noise

It has been about 3 months that I have been hearing a bad knocking noise from my front suspension when I go around corners which are badly paved. I hear it every ones and a while to a lesser extent while driving straight. But the "clunk" only appears on bad roads. I have a felling thats its the ball joints that are finished cause my cousin has got an Escort that had the same noise. He changed them both and the noise went away. I just don't want to be changing part after part until I get the right one. Just give me feedback on what you think it could be.
Thanks for helping!

Car has 133 000Km and ntg has been changed in the front suspension.

sway bar links/ sway bar bushings or stuts could also be a possibilty. if you jack up the car, lift the dust boot on the strut and if there is an oily substance, your sturts are leaking.

sway bar end link would be my guess. jack up the car by that wheel and put it on jack stands then jack up that wheel back to about where it would be with the car on the ground. that removes the tension on the end link. then grab the end link and try to wiggle it around. it should be pretty hard to move. if the ends (ball joints) are loose then replace it. for ball joint also jack up the car and rest that wheel on a wood or cement block then let the car down so there is about half the load on the spring and the other half on the jack. put a pry bar between the bottom of the ball joint and the inner wheel so that u can pry up on the ball joint. pry up to lift the lower arm up and down. if there is play in the ball joint you will feel it.

A mechanic told me that it may be the strut itself. Is it something that is dangerous to leave alone? No, he said, so I'm not worried about it.
