coolant temp sensor

Hello, new to this group. I bought a 1994 323, 1.6 liter, problem is when warmed up its misses and stalls. Pulled the code, which is 09. temp sensor. I found the sensor on the thermostat housing, which controls the fans i believe and the one for the temp guage on the block. Bought a Haynes manual which shows the temp sensor to tell fuel system to lean out when warm next to the Distributor, not there. From what i read in the manual the temp sensor tells the fuel system when its ok to lean out fuel mixture. The sensor for the fans has one spade and 1 wire, and is on the thermostat housing, i have to replace this as i broke the connector changing the thermostat. The sensor I bought to fix the code has 2 spades. The build date is july 93. Any ideas? I looked on the engine and cannot find the sensor. Before i broke the connctor on fan control it did the stalling thing and the code was there. Thanks

They put it in a weird spot on the SOHC models.

The rest of the models it goes in the side of the head.
