NEMOC Random BS Thread

Happy 4th to you all, 1st for us. Had a nice quiet day yesterday.

On another note anyone ever use Plasti DIP Metalizer?

Mark how did you get the gold or bronze colour on your emblems? Couldn't find a bronze or gold Plasti DIp

Happy 4th, Sean, jeffy, bruce and well, not sure[emoji95]! Going to a cookout tomorrow, fireworks in the back 40 sat night1

Happy 4th (well 6th today hehe) indeed!

Can't wait for Lime Rock!!!

I'll actually be up your way tomorrow. The HR offices are in Foxboro, so I have to go up there to sign all my newbie papers.

Happy 4th! Y'all be safe out there and don't go blowing any fingers off over the weekend.

Yes, I've noticed that on this board. And what the hell is a quick community? Guess I'm showing my age. haha

It's not really an official term.. I'm talking about reddit and facebook groups and whatnot. Mostly just little enthusiast pockets that don't really have an established domain or meeting place and such.

First of all, happy belated 4th! Hope everyone is doing well!

As for the quote above...That's why I think the remaining established forums out there such as this one are thriving and will continue to do so in specific areas such as model-based discussion...

The post about "quick communities" caught my eye...I hadn't heard it before but have no doubt noticed the phenomenon...I wanted to clarify how Mazdas247 is doing...While traffic has mostly moved away from areas of community that involve location, clubs, off topic and heavy photo sharing...It has come on strong in model-specific areas as mentioned above, especially for newer models.

I'm not to concerned with the future of forums when I see threads like this...

Anytime I browse reddit for specific info about something, I see comments linking to forums and YouTube channels for more info...To me it seems, what's not on forums, blogs and niche sites / apps is just temporary chatter with no long term value.

How's NEMOC as a club doing? Membership up, down or stagnant? I've always enjoyed NEMOC threads and I hope they continue!

hi Antoine, my observations:
membership...well we had a very active group from all around NE up until a few yrs ago. most were younger, single, and just starting out in their careers and life in general. since then, they've got their degrees, moved out of NE, got married, sold their mazda(s) and have other interests now. some of us are older, have a more "mature" life situation and are still around...so i'd say "membership" or activity on the board is down.

when i think back to when i got involved in the forum, i had just got my 02 protoge, i was at a point where my kids were older and more self sufficient (kind of)...and i could afford to do some of the mods to my ride that i did when i was 17. if i had been in my early mid twenties, i'd probably not have got as involved and certainly couldn't have spent the time and money on my car like i did at 45.
i miss the install and spring/fall cleaning meets at my house and others...the LRP race weekends when several of us would caravan from all over NE to hang out for 4 days of the memorial day weekend. good time for sure! but like many things in life, change happens and you roll with it...Sean is correct many have moved to other forms of "communication" but forums like 247 is the only place i feel that you can get hard core enthusiasts together for meaningful discussions about your mazda and cars in general.

There is a decent group of guys on Facebook that gather in the numbers equivalent to the original NEPOC. The mountain climb events are a big hit and there has been good turn out at LRP for the all Mazda car show (formerly OCC meet). It's a different crowd though...or maybe it's the same crowd and we've just all changed.

As far as the conversation on Facebook goes, it is mostly sharing funny links and joking about car related things with a little bit of organization for major events and gatherings. There's some buying and selling of parts too. There is very little technical sharing that does not result in a link to some other website or forum. If people want to talk parts, builds, or diagnostics they still come to forums. I am picky about the groups I belong to though. I know there are groups out there that really bring down the technical knowhow and since they are private, or only capture a small subset of the car enthusiast population, bad information gets passed around and you never really know if people are serious or joking.

For my REPU, the only place to get information is a forum. Sadly it isn't this one but the best part is that I rarely have to actually start a topic. Most of the questions have been asked and answered or you can contact the right people directly to get more information. The success of a forum isn't necessarily measured in active users or number of threads created. The success is the number of visitors that come, read several pages (or an entire thread), and never have to create an account to post. If the information is presented without too much chatter it can serve as documentation for future visitors.

Hi everyone!
I am now representing NEMOC from the pacific northwest! Got into town on Monday after a few delays with the p5. Right before I was going to leave I noticed some noise from the timing belt area. Turns out the belt was walking off the cam gears and rubbing through the side cover! Did a saturday delivery on new parts from Amazon which did not come in until the following monday which made me leave for my trip 5 days later than I wanted. Then with the p5 being lowered and having decent weight in it, I ended up blowing up a strut in Indiana and had to get it swapped out in Chicago. If I just had an air compressor I could have done the job myself, but instead I had to pay $450 to have two new rear struts put on. Better it happened there than somewhere in SD or WY!

Still cant believe the p5 made it. Sitting at 195k now and I will definitely see that 200k very soon. Many pics to go through and edit but here is one of the car in the badlands! :)

Man do I miss my Laser Blue P5. Glad you made it OK. Sounds like quite an adventure! What bike you got back there?

Awesome pics Kyle! Glad you made it safe and almost sound!! Miss my p5 as well even if it wasn't laser blue!

Just wanted to say in response to the following...

Great points and insights, thanks for both your thoughts, I really appreciate it! (2thumbs)

And that's possibly where I'm drawing my insight from. I can't say I've been checking out the model specific forums all that often. I haven't run into any issues with the new 3 yet, and I periodically check in on miata.net for more of the miata specific stuff. That's good to know that other areas of the site are actually gaining speed and getting traction.

A lot of my time on this site was spent in the off topic and community sections, so it does stand to reason that I would perceive that traffic is going way down, and why I'd be concerned about long term viability. A lot of the message boards I used to frequent have pretty much vaporized, so that's flavoring the response too. I guess I just didn't want to see this site go the way of the buffalo too, and I felt like the writing was already on the wall.

With that said, I've been on the site for 11 almost 12 years, and I've made a life long set of friends as a result. To say that it hasn't played an integral role in my life would be completely false.

Hey that's me!! Not sure who is in the car with me though?? Where is it Mark, the Glen?

As for forums and facebook, not a facebook user, might have to do with my age but more along the lines of living my life online. Don't see the need to expose myself in that way.

not sure bruce, looks like the glen stands and fence? hey, we don't want you exposing yourself either!!!

Thanks for the clarification there Sean, now I see what you mean. Like Bruce I don't do Facebook either but unlike him I never thought of exposing myself. :p

Great pic Mark and looks like the Glen to me. At first glance I thought it might have been you in the passenger seat.
