Tire Rotation Recommendation

The CX-7 Manual (8-28) recommends tire rotation in a semi- X pattern. This brings rear tires to front on the same side, and fronts to rear on opposite sides than their last positions. When done in this fashion, the direction of rotation of the tires that were on the rear is reversed.

I have NEVER reversed the direction of rotation of a radial tire during the course of rotating the tires.

Am I missing something, or is this the thing to do?

Modern radials can be reversed in direction. The stock tires (Goodyears at least) are a-symmetrical, not directional. You obviously wouldn't want to flip a directional tire. However, you can x-rotate modern radials. I work in the tire business and we rotate back to front. Cross rotating on an open differential makes sense because one drive tire will wear faster than the other. However, back to front and you should be fine.

Just don't expect great mileage out of the OG tires.

I can't wait to get me some Advans.

Thanks for the information. I just never did it, and then when I began to run Z rated tires ther were directional, I guess.
