I have been told that my 2000 mazda protege 1.6 has a rear main seal leak. has anybody heard of this? is it easy to fix? is this a common problem with these engines? I have only owned this car for like a week and i don't even drive it right now. (enguard)
I've got one. Same engine as yours and at 152-K both front and rear cranlk seals leak. I will replce the front one when I do a timing belt, but I'm not pulling the auto trans to do the rear seal.
yeah i did, about a year ago. it was not bad, i pulled the tranny out to change the clutch, then took the flywheel off and it was right there. I replaced it with a 29.00 oem part, and it has not leaked since.
