Just replaced alternator...

I just recently replaced my alternator with a brand new NSA unit from autopartswarehouse.com. I am starting to get a whirring sound, seems like it is coming from the alternator or the belt. Any ideas of what it could be?? Thanks!!

- The sound does increase with RPM. It is not an electrical whine that can be heard in the speakers, it is a mechanical whine that is heard underneath the hood near the pulley region.

tighten the belts

I am going to try that once I get my car going again (had a cracked tranny housing). Hopefully that kills some sound, but the belts are not squeaking though. Seems like it might be coming from the alternator itself.

If it is too tight - it will put pressure on the bearings (badbabdbabbad).

Try loosening the belt and see if it stops (but not until it starts to sqeal with the a/c on...
