'98 ES power surges, OD & check engine lights on/off

I have a '98 ES automatic with 87K miles. During the last few weeks, it's developed intermittent problems. The OD on/off light and check engine lights will flash on simultaneously for a split second. My trip to work is 16 miles. Sometimes this can happen 5-6 times, sometimes none. Also, I've had trouble with the car loosing power and power surging back repeatedly, also very intermittent, and not necessarily while the lights flash, although I'm sure they're related. 2 mechanics and 2 transmission shops can not find any problem. Any ideas?

Maybe a bad ground for the PCM? I know alot of cars go into a 'limp mode' when the PCM gets a bad ground, using a very limited parameter to get where you need to go. maybe when you go over bumps, or just driving around even may vibrate it enough? I'm not sure how automatics go in the proteges, but maybe the O/D is controlled through the PCM, being as why that flashes as well?

I might be totally off, but its an idea
