I'm having the toughest time trying to get my production number!
Here's how my conversation pretty much went:
With Mazda Canada:
Me: Hi there. My name is George Tam and I own a 2003.5 MSP and I would like to find out what the production number is for my car.
Rep: Production number? What do you mean?
Me: Well, it's limited production car, I think there was only about 250 made available for the Canadian market and I want to find out what number I have out of the 250.
Rep: Hmm, I don't think we have that information. What is your vin number?
Me: <starts saying the vin number>
Rep: Only the last 8 digits.
Me: <say last 8 digits>
Rep: What's your name?
Me: George Tam
Rep: Okay. I don't think we can even get that information? You might have to go to the dealer.
Me: (thinking to myself) The dealer is going to know s***. Plus, my dealer closed it's doors.
Rep: Let me check with my manager and see what he says.
Me: Okay.
Five minutes later.
Rep: Yeah, there is no way we could get you that information. You might have to call the factory in Japan.
Me: Really?!
Rep: Yeah.
Me: Do you think Mazda USA would have it?
Rep: You could try them.
Me: Okay, thanks for your help.
Rep: You're very welcome, have a good day.
With Mazda USA:
Me: Hi there. My name is George Tam and I own a 2003.5 MSP and I would like to find out what the production number is for my car.
Rep: Okay, we could definitely do that for you. What is your VIN number?
Me: <vin number>
Rep: Oh, it's a Canadian car?
Me: Yup.
Rep: We only have some of the Canadian numbers but hold on I'll see if I could find it.
About 3 minutes go by.
Rep: Sorry for all the silence, it takes some time sometimes. But I'm still here.
Another couple of minutes.
Rep: It doesn't look like we have it. Like I said, we only have a few.
Me: Okay.
Rep: You could try and call Mazda Canada. That's where we get our Canadian numbers from. The database system is basically the same for US and Canadian models.
Me: Really?! I just called them and they said that they don't have that information available.
Rep: Really? Because that's where we got our Canadian numbers from. It's pretty much the same system.
Me: Hmm. Okay, I'll try them again and see what they say.
Rep: Sorry I couldn't help you out more.
Me: No, thanks very much for your help.
Rep: Oh, you're welcome. Good luck with your search.
Me: Thanks, talk to ya later.
I haven't called Mazda Canada back yet. I have a feeling that I will never get this, and the production number badges are calling out to me. "Buy me, buy me."
