Canadian production numbers?

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
I'm having the toughest time trying to get my production number!

Here's how my conversation pretty much went:

With Mazda Canada:

Me: Hi there. My name is George Tam and I own a 2003.5 MSP and I would like to find out what the production number is for my car.

Rep: Production number? What do you mean?

Me: Well, it's limited production car, I think there was only about 250 made available for the Canadian market and I want to find out what number I have out of the 250.

Rep: Hmm, I don't think we have that information. What is your vin number?

Me: <starts saying the vin number>

Rep: Only the last 8 digits.

Me: <say last 8 digits>

Rep: What's your name?

Me: George Tam

Rep: Okay. I don't think we can even get that information? You might have to go to the dealer.

Me: (thinking to myself) The dealer is going to know s***. Plus, my dealer closed it's doors.

Rep: Let me check with my manager and see what he says.

Me: Okay.

Five minutes later.

Rep: Yeah, there is no way we could get you that information. You might have to call the factory in Japan.

Me: Really?!

Rep: Yeah.

Me: Do you think Mazda USA would have it?

Rep: You could try them.

Me: Okay, thanks for your help.

Rep: You're very welcome, have a good day.

With Mazda USA:

Me: Hi there. My name is George Tam and I own a 2003.5 MSP and I would like to find out what the production number is for my car.

Rep: Okay, we could definitely do that for you. What is your VIN number?

Me: <vin number>

Rep: Oh, it's a Canadian car?

Me: Yup.

Rep: We only have some of the Canadian numbers but hold on I'll see if I could find it.

About 3 minutes go by.

Rep: Sorry for all the silence, it takes some time sometimes. But I'm still here.

Another couple of minutes.

Rep: It doesn't look like we have it. Like I said, we only have a few.

Me: Okay.

Rep: You could try and call Mazda Canada. That's where we get our Canadian numbers from. The database system is basically the same for US and Canadian models.

Me: Really?! I just called them and they said that they don't have that information available.

Rep: Really? Because that's where we got our Canadian numbers from. It's pretty much the same system.

Me: Hmm. Okay, I'll try them again and see what they say.

Rep: Sorry I couldn't help you out more.

Me: No, thanks very much for your help.

Rep: Oh, you're welcome. Good luck with your search.

Me: Thanks, talk to ya later.

I haven't called Mazda Canada back yet. I have a feeling that I will never get this, and the production number badges are calling out to me. "Buy me, buy me."

So who gives a crap, just pick a number....lol

Did you look in the big PDF for your VIN?

I share your pain brother. Been there, done that...several times. Always same answer. No production numbers for most of the Canadian cars. It seems we don't matter when it comes to these issues. That is why my sig says "Go Go Ghetto MSP 1" because I have no other scheme to reference my cars production from.

I propose that we start our own numbering scheme. I figured that we could dole out the numbers on a first come, first serve basis. First number (1-10) to denote the province of the owner (moving from east to west or vice versa), second number (1-5) to denote the colours available (in alphabetical order), and a final number to list the order in which the owner applied. For example, 111 (1-1-1) might mean BC owner, black mica colour (Bla-Blu-Or-Ti-Ye), first one to claim a number in that province. 1035 (10-3-5) might mean Newfoundland owner, orange colour, fifth person in that province to apply for a number. Since we might end up with numbers identical to those in the US, we could precede our numbers with a capital "C" to denote Canadian numbers.

What do you think? Kinda complex for such a simple thing, but at least it is a way for us to uniquely identify ourselves, although it won't give us any information about the "real" order in which our cars were produced.

Feedback from fellow Canadian MSPers?

The production numbers are for all cars. FK, think about it, they are limited production. Mazda Canada knows s***, they always have and they always will. They are a bunch of dumb FK's ... someone please send them a copy of this.....

Get your production number call Mazdaspeed USA at the following number 1-888-222-5500

Have your VIN number ready. They will ask you to register with them. I spoke to some hot sexy sounding chick when I called.

my number is 1270

Canadian Production Numbers. (maken this list because some ignorant FK keeps deleting the Canadian #'s from the master list.)

I have phoned Mazda USA several times as well, because this same thing has been said before on earlier threads. In fact, I think that I got the number from one of your previous posts. However, Mazda USA informed me that not ALL Canadian cars were numbered and unfortunately, my VIN was one of those thtat was not. Neither Mazda Canada nor Mazda USA has a production number for my car. I suppose that I could ultimately phone Mazda Japan to find out what my number is, but I don't want to bother if I am going to get the same answer as with my previous ten attempts.

That's retarded. I never contacted Mazda Canada for a production number. I went straight to Mazdaspeed USA. They asked for my VIN, took my porsonal data and then later I discovered that Mazda Canada got a copy of it.

Write Mazda Canada a letter, and ask them for your production number. You will have better luck with a letter then some phone monkey.

I was just checking the pdf from Mazda USA and it lists a total of 2750 2003.5 MSP's. Is this the total for all of North America? Something doesn't make sense here. If that is the case where is my vin number? If not, then why is Evolv's number on there?

Go to the 2003.5 registry and take a look at the last post (from Ryoga I think). He mentions that the production number he got from Mazda USA doesn't match the production number from the list (according to his vin number). Also, #278 is listed twice in both the Canadian numbers and the American numbers. (#278 XLspeed (Montreal, Canada) and #278 react.is.a.geek (Miami, FL))

Evolv: Could you check your vin number and see if it actually matches the one on the pdf?

LOL. In the interim while we await clarification from Japan or some other higher source, I am still pushing my previously mentioned numbering scheme. I figured that this will be more arbitrary than the numbers AndreGT and I have provided ourselves...LOL.

I tired as well, same results.

So I went with #2 in Ottawa. :)

I checked and my VIN number is NOT on that PDF list.

Production number 1270 (mine) belongs to different VIN # (not mine)

So the question begs, how did Mazdaspeed USA issue me a production number.

This is getten weird

After many calls to Mazda Canada and Mazda USA, and reading the posts about the few Canadians who got production numbers, I started to believe that someone at Mazda decided that they had gotten enough inquiries about Canadian production numbers and decided to just give random numbers out to persistent callers. Perhaps this is the case with your number Evolv? Until I hear from Mazda Japan otherwise, I am going to assume that there are no "official" Canadian production numbers.

Now we know why Mazda never numbered these cars with placards. They haven't got a clue what they did...

Mazda U listening ------------ Wake up and pay attention.

I emailed Mazda USA today to see if I could get my production number by other means. No go once again. But they did inform me that they had the statisical numbers for the number of Canadian MSP's. There were 350 yellow and 350 titanium. But don't quote me on that, I'll check the email when I get back to work tomorrow.

Nothing makes sense, because now there's 700 MSP's in Canada? Does Mazda NA know anything?

Here's the email I received yesterday.

Hello George,
Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate

the opportunity to respond to you.

In regards to your inquiry, I only have production numbers for the

MAZDASPEED Protegs marketed for the U.S. market. I know that you've

already tried contacting Mazda Canada, but they are going to be the

only ones to have this information.

If it helps, the total quantity of 2003.5 MAZDASPEED Proteg's Canada

released was: 350 Yellow and 350 Titanium Gray. That is the only

statistic I have here from Mazda North American Operations.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to

assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further

questions or comments.

Only 350 Yellows in Canada?
Such a shame she's my daily driver.
Maybe I should buy a 3rd car to drive to work with and use in the winters.
And use the Speed and Triumph for the summer.
Hmm I bet for the cost of gas money I'd spend per month driving to work I could lease a Kia.

;)
