2000 protege 1.8 no problems 175 000 km right now in the spring im getting about 9L/100km. In the winter it will be around 12-13L/100km, and in the summer with more highway driving I can get it down to under 7L/100km. Location: Alberta

i had a similar issue and it turned out to be spark plug wires.

im not sure if this has come up here yet, though i'm sure it has and i just could find it..if sorry sorry for repeating..but what are the chances of taking the EGR off without damaging the gasket? I want to to this asap but should i buy a gasket first? thanks!

there are 2 o2 sensors, other than that i cant be much help..sorry...but my car was doing the same thing and it ended up being a misfire casued by bad sparkplugs and wires, and that ended up wrecking my catalytic converter, which made me really happy lol.
