I can test it again at some point, i revved the engine while parked to test. I could actually drive to see it, though that shouldn't make a huge difference. it did fluctuate slightly, but nothing that would make a difference (i.e. 4.58 - 4.61). Still not significantly closer to a true 5v output.

Just bought a 2016 CX-5 AWD Grand Touring last night, had the same issue. When i looking in the spare tire, the tire iron was sitting there loose inside the spare. Placed it in the styrofoam insert and the rattle went away. All good, just wish the dealer had caught it!
