    FWD or AWD?

Those people should park their cars in the winter then. There's no situation in which 'best', 'all season' and 'snow' belong together. It should be (and increasingly, is) illegal to use all season tires on snow and ice. If it only affected your own experience with the car (that's where...

Impressions and comparison after a week with my rav4.

All of this is very true. Before I even got into a CX-5 for a test drive the salesman told me something along the lines of "the accelerator pedal isn't like other cars - if you feel like it's being kind of sluggish, jab the pedal". I can fully understand people not liking that, but it's true...

What happens when a tow truck tows an AWD CX-5

I'm guessing flatbed trucks are most common in the UK? In North America, wheel lift trucks are more common. No danger (or difficulty) towing an automatic in park with one of those because the drive wheels are lifted off the ground. For the OP, from the owner's manual: From the service...

    winter storm

FWD, small engine, Blizzak DM-V1, in Kitchener Ontario. The roads were spectacularly crummy here on the weekend/monday and I have no complaints. It *is* a light vehicle and it's going to wiggle a bit as you drive through patches of heavier snow (like changing lanes on an unplowed but busy...

    Power Steering

Wonder no more, it doesn't have hydraulic steering.

Locking Door but keeping engine running?

I love how most of the 'don't let your car warm up' articles mention that you should invest in a scraper (or even better, a can of defroster) to remove "frost". If frost is your biggest concern, I agree, you're being wasteful by warming your car. However, when I've got 6 inches of snow over...

My Winter Setup - Blizzak DM-V1 and Mazda 6 Wheels

I do like those a little better than the stock 17s.

First test i've read that sees the cx-5 beaten.

I don't think Subaru Canada even makes an attempt to compete with other manufacturers on price & financing for anything other than the Imprezza. I didn't even test drive the 2014 Forester because the value just wasn't there.

    Winter tire dilemma

I sold some old Mazda6 wheels on Kijiji in Kitchener earlier in the fall and there were tons of other OEM mazda wheels for sale, steel and alloy.

    Winter tire dilemma

Go to a mazda dealer. They're not especially expensive, and they won't have this problem.

    Winter tire dilemma

Your tires are good, but I'd seriously question what's going on with the fit of the wheels. Hub-centric is good, but only if they actually are exactly 67.1mm.

    Replacement tires for stock 19?

I think the only factor that will have a quantifiable change will be mileage. Mazda puts these 225s on there to reduce rolling resistance, and going to a wider tire is going to have an affect. Maybe a very small one, but something. You might feel a difference in the cornering but I can't imagine...

Exactly what kind of wheels did you buy?

My Winter Setup - Blizzak DM-V1 and Mazda 6 Wheels

I'm also highly impressed with the Blizzak DM-V1. Grip for days.

    Hugely disappointed.

That's pretty much the only thing in the interior that bugs me.

    Hugely disappointed.

I think an added advantage of the relatively simple/clean designs the Germans (and Mazda) use is that they don't age like bell-bottoms and tie-die t-shirts, which is what will happen (IMO) to the current trend of inserting as many angles, polygons and shiny bits of plastic as possible.

Can't stand driving with both rear windows down....ear popping air vibrating sound?

Just cracking one of the front windows can usually get rid of the buffeting.

CAD $1200 Too much for winter tires + steel rims

Might be that snow tires are more expensive in BC because you guys don't need as many, but from my perspective in Ontario, 16" mazda steels should cost $50 each, which would mean they're charging you $245 a piece for the tires, install and balance. That's a lot. You should pay $50 per (steel)...

winter tire questions from a total noob

225 means the tire's widest point is 225mm, 65 indicates that the sidewall is 65% of the width (so 146mm in this case), R means it's a radial tire (for passenger vehicles, other kinds are so uncommon that you don't even really need to include it anymore), and the 17 indicates it's to be mounted...

    emergency brake

Yup, never had an issue. Previous car was manual, parked every day of it's life in a steeply sloped driveway.
