Thank you guys! I had both timing belt and water pump replaced 2 years ago so I'm assuming the timing belt is still good. The valve cover gasket was done around the same time.

Well since the msp is selling very slowly I'm debating on tackling the water pump replacement myself. I checked quotes and to replace it at my mechanic's I usually go to, it's $4xx with a water pump from the dealer. I don't trust those Chinese made water pumps from advance auto parts or auto...
I have an 03 Mazda Mazdaspeed Protege. 135k miles. This car has given me more problems than any other car I've owned in my life. Owning it in only 2 years I've replaced:

I know me too. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they're slow. I'm afraid I might get bored of it especially if it's automatic. I'm not a big modder so I know I can make it fast but prefer it to be at least quick out the box. But then again that reliability is priceless. Well see...
Has a small water pump leak (replacing a water pump costs around $300)
Exhaust manifold has hairline cracks on it which causes rough idle when warming up (infamous hesitation)
The front passenger door lock actuator is bad so you have to manually lock it.
Horn doesn't work.
