What is the purpose of the little cubby on the left side of the steering wheel? Does anyone use this small space for anything in particular? It's too small to fit pretty much anything but small items like keys, but I don't think they'd make this space specifically to store keys so.... any ideas?

After returning from a 2-hour evening drive through the countryside in which bugs were constantly getting splattered across my windshield (I was going at approx. 50-60 mph), I took a peek inside my grill and found dozens of bug corpses fried onto it. Took the car to the wash the next morning...
