Yes, it's normal for wagons. They all do this. On a serious note, in normal conditions my auto does not spin the tires. I am envisioning you lighting up one tire at a stoplight with plumes of smoke. Maybe your e-brake is on? Most likely you need new tires or it is wet/icy/sandy etc.

Yep, they say its perfectly normal for one of their transmissions to grenade after 30K. Happens all the time they said.
