Moved the boost gauge tapping location from after the waste gate to the brake boost. No more 4 In. Hg at idle, now it reads 20-18 In. Hg. Made sure it was tapped towards the passenger side, after the check valve.

So I have a Mazda 3, Hatchback, Grand Touring. There is some kind of rattle under the hood I can't find for the life of me. I thought it was the intake that goes in to the battery box, but after securing the tube and battery box (which was a little loose due to a broken clip), the rattle is still there!

It only happens at highway speeds, and then mainly when not following another vehicle. It sounds like plastic bumping against itself. The sound is coming from the driver's side, just in front of the dash, as best I can tell. I thought it may have been the shield that sits under the engine, but I tightened that and got a few more clips which were missing, but it is still there!

Anyone have any ideas out there? (uhm) This is gonna kill the road trip potential for this summer...

I'm basically starting this blog so I can keep track of my progress with the things I want to do to her and log the things that have been done.

With approximately 66,700 miles on the body, and about ~19,000-20,000 on the motor, it's not a bad car, considering it's completely stock (except for the Injen CAI). Last owner took REAL good care of the car in and out, and I hope to do the same.

So let the log begin!

4/19/12
-installed Autometer Boost Vacuum gauge 4301

4/21/12
-changed spark plugs [the tip on the 2nd one to the left is charred, and none were properly gapped]

-changed oil [about a quart and 3/4 came out]

-cleaned Injen air filter

-replaced the PRC Solenoid [taken off a mid 2000's V6 Mazda MPV, got rid of my P0090 & P0171 codes]

-replaced the PCV valve grommet

IMMEDIATE FUTURE PLANS:
-Realign driver side door, it's sagging a little big, like from 9 years of people leaning on it

-Clunk Fix Brackets

-SSAFC

-AWR engine mount insert [driver and passenger side]

-AWR front motor mount [70 duro]

-Polyurethane Exhaust Hangers

-Gold Tuner Forged Lug Nuts

-Tint front windows

LATER FUTURE PLANS
-Autometer Wideband A/F gauge

-Install my Spearco FMIC w/GReedy BOV

-Upgrade to MFactory LSD [I'll do it when the stock LSD goes out]

-Catback Exhaust [looking more into this]

The previous owner assured to me that he had just changed it ( which was totally false :s) and even I did a total servicing on my car just after the acquisition. I have read that while breaking its's sure that are engine damages and may be I will have to replace the engine or a big repair to do. Am feeling depressed :( its my first car and I've spent lots of money on it. Will soon bring it to the garage to see what can be done. My car is Mazda Protege 323 year 2003, the mileage is 120,000 km and the engine is a 16 VALVE DOHC. Can someone pls advise, feeling very very upset :(
