View Full Version : CEL: p0401
well, i got that CEL yesterday a couple of hours after putting everything back after installing my AFC (which works great by the way).
apparently the code is P0401 = EGR Flow Insufficient
can anyone point out to me where the EGR Valve is ? i'm not sure if i moved it or not trying to route my vacuum line. it's really pissing me off. i think it's causing me to have whack mileage 'cause my fuel has just been dropping like mad. about a one little dash on the fuel gauge per 20-45 minutes of driving. didn't drop that fast before.
stupid CEL is staring me in the face and pissing me off ! (encourage

its that bronze colored piping that is about 1/2 thick that wraps around the drivers side fo the block.
thanks matthew...is there anyway to tell if it's stuck or something or if i moved it ?

seems to be a problem with the internals of it and seems to be a problem with msps. mine throws that code because mine is physically plugged shut from my first turbo install.

try cleaning it, Vega122 posted a how to somewhere
alright cool...thanks guys.
john (dsmconvert) was telling me that it's better if it's shut closed (i think ?), but if it's stuck open it's bad.
i'll try cleaning it in about an hour...
crap, well looks like i'm gonna have to buy some carbon killer (brake-kleen), and some oil. will wd40 work to lube the pin in the EGR valve ? i think i'll wait 'til i get home again this weekend.
oh yeah, the crap idle that 122 vega was talking about in his how-to has been happening to me for the past i don't know, year or so ? ugh. and when i started the car the 2nd time after installing my AFC, the engine almost died. freakin' CRAP !! okay gonna plan out what i'm gonna do for the week...
and can anyone tell me if this is affecting my gas mileage ? it's kinda whack....i drove maybe about 120-140 miles and my gauge is already below half.

It's a POOTA to remove but luckly there are only two bolts...

If it is stuck open then your car would idle like crap. Stuck close wouldn't affect gas mileage.
