View Full Version : Will a downpipe fit?

I currently have the corksport cat back installed on my MSP. It goes from the stock downpipe to the bumper. Are there downpipes out there that will fit right in between the turbo and the start of corksport exhaust? And do these potential downpipes have a bung for an O2 sensor? Cuz you have to move the O2 sensor from the stock exhaust to the downpipe cuz the corksport does not have the bung in the first initial pipe. I'm sure the answer is out there in some forum but I didn't want to go searching. Also wondering if anybody is running the corksport with an aftermarket DP and if you are how do you like it?

You can make the GHL Spipe fit with some modification or you can wait for the MAM S/J pipe to come out and that will bolt right up without any modification

you have to be careful where you're putting the o2 sensor. if you want to run at least one cat, the second o2 sensor needs to be placed AFTER the cat so that you won't throw a CEL. if you don't have a cat though, then you can place it wherever you want really...you'll just need something to stop from throwing a CEL. btw, your first o2 sensor is up near your exhaust manifold.

To the corksport flange? Or just in general to anything.

Yeah I threw a CEL cuz I have no cats. The first O2 sensor has never been moved but the second had to go to my dp cuz the corksport exhaust doesn't have a bung. Do any current dp's have O2 sensor bungs?

so uh, you just got rid of the second o2 sensor? is your car running funny? maybe low gas mileage? most midpipes do come with a bung. corksport's didn't? odd....

EDIT: your post made me curious so i went outside and ducked under my car.....if you go to their website and look at their installed pictures, it looks like the second o2 sensor is put in the bung on the j-pipe. there's a bolt there normally which they removed. i hope you did not completely remove the second o2 sensor. what you need is a MIL eliminator to stop from throwing a cel. you can get one from apex motorsports for about 20 bucks. www.apexr1.com (http://www.apexr1.com)

Yeah when I installed the exhaust I moved the O2 sensor to the stock downpipe. I had to call them to figure it out. I wish there was a bung on the corksport but keep in mind the exhaust was designed for the regular protege. You even have to bend a hanger bracket to get it to fit cuz the bumper sits lower on the MSP. I want to buy a new downpipe so I can boost at 9 psi in the summer cuz with more boost the exhaust needs to exit the car more efficiently. But I need to make sure I have a place for my 2nd O2 sensor since my exhaust doesn't have a spot. Maybe my tax return will be like 1600 and I can buy the ION turbo back system and my dilemma will be solved.

Hiboost makes an ugraded downpipe (J pipe) that goes from the S-pipe to where your Corksport exhaust mounts up. The upgraded J pipe is 2.5" with a reducer to 2.s" at the flange. it flows 57% more air than the stock J-pipe which is only 1.7". I think it cost about $130.

You can have him place an O2 bung there if you want.

You can also eliminate the no-cat CEL by using spark plug non foulers.

yeah this works really well on the corksport except I think I am going to have to extend my 02 wires bc they are pretty tight and close the the flange.
but hey no cel for 2 bucks
