I found this website that has the 1.6L protege header, but is for 2001. My car is 2000, will it fit into the car? Also, is it hard to install the header by myself? I have little experience about cars, but I do know where it is located.. If I was to go to a shop and have them install the header for me, usually how much is the labor?

http://www.streetstyler.com/OBXHEADERS.htm $175 for header...

you should do the header install yourself. its not hard at all and you will save yourself some money. make sure they have the H2016 in stock before you order as i have dealt with obx headers directly for a long time and they are not easy to come by for the 1.6

if you want to do engine work to the 1.6l i would recommend boosting it, basic bolt ons are gonna cost you a lot of money and show almost nothing in the performance area ... but if you just want the sound and such then go for it, it will fit, and it isnt a hard job you could do it by yourself or with a friend or 2 if you feel the need for moral support.

So installing that obx header will give no beneifits in performance area? What shoudl I get then? I only have $300 to spend... Oh by the way, the header for 2001 1.6L is H2016...

if your goal with the car is to quick/fast ... the only thing you can do with the 1.6l is turbo it ... i would just save up until i could afford that, there really isnt anything besides that that is going to help the engine out ... and it handles boost very well actually. I dont think anyone has ever bought the 1.6l header so i dont know how much it actually helps but i dont think it is a cost effective power adder.

you will get a small increase in horsepower, a little more if you add an intake, exhaust system. but like Drackonn is saying if you want mindblowing performance from this engine the best way is to go turbo

i have sold three 1.6 liter headers actually. never got any feedback from the owners.

How much is an average protege 1.6L turbo kit cost? Also isn't turbo make ur car run hotter? i.e shortening the life of the engine?

You know, I have never actually *seen* any 1.6'ers with a header installed. I'm sure there are some people around here that have got to have a pic of it...

turbo-kits.com, 2700 dont recomend it, HIboost on the boards just make one , 3600 but has a standalone fuel system, and the engine can run 20psi with100 octane fuel at 280hp..

I believe the stock HP/Torque on this protege is 105HP@6000RPM/103 lb/ft@3000RPM. My goal is to reach 150+HP. Just to improve the overall horse by 50%, that's all. I dont need like 280 HP or so. Just so what when I step on gas, the car will actually accelerate, that's all. I'm not looking for anything under extreme performance or anything... So if I just want to improve the horsepower by 50%, is turbo the only way to go?

FI is the only way to go - these engines don't gain shit w/ I/H/E.
