I just wanted to know what is this sensor for exactly I know its an Air Intake Temp sensor but is it really important cuz I was told if it is unplugged it will make a CEL come on is this true? I unplugged mine tonight and nothing came on I wanted to see if it is working. Do you have to get rid of it when you get a cold air intake? Any feedback would be greatly appreaciated.

When you get a cold air intake, it basically plugs into the tubing for the intake.....so no, you don't have to get rid of it.
Not quite sure what it does.
Why would you want to get rid of it?

Air temperature affects the density of air which in turn affects the air to fuel ratio. The ECU looks at the IAT sensor to help determine the proper fuel trim. Don't remove it.

Well I just wondered cuz I am doing Leppy's idea and putting a K&N filter on the end of the stock intake tube and will be putting the IAT sensor inside the filter. It won't hurt anything doing it this way will it?

I've been running almost a year with mine like that and it hasn't had any negative effects. Gas mileage is still awesome and not a single CEL.

If you just pull the sensor out of the airbox and have it dangling there you wont throw a CEL, but if you actually unplug the sensor from the harness then you will.
I put a cone filter on my MAF also, I drilled a hole in the metal ring at the base of the filter and put the rubber grommet and AIT sensor in that way.
