Looks fucking sweet. I like how it didn't look as RX-8ish as was originally revealed, but rather a MX-5/RX-8 mutation of blissful balance seems to have been created here. I can't wait to see one in person.

Hmm,

I think it's gonna need to grow on me. At this point I still like the 2nd gen. better. But, then again I didn't like the 2nd gens when they first arrived on the lots. Still, props to Mazda for a unique design that doesn't look any other model they make. (Well, except for the damn tail lights.)

"BJ"...hopefully you understand why it is rarely referred to in that way...

and Matty, I heard the Renesis notion was only a weak rumor at best, and that the true performance model will get a version of the 6s' V6...with well over 200bhp...

The big word about the Renesis is the upcoming RX-7...which fits in size between the new MX-5 and RX-8..but has 300+bhp from a turbo'd renesis supposedly...but I have only seen spy shots of that in R&T...nothing actually released yet...

and also the new base MX-5 is slated to be cheaper...and the base engine now has a "real" 160bhp (from the 2.3L I-4 powering the 3s), rather than the 1.8L that never really made what Mazda claimed it did...

That looks really good, like an evolution of the nb. Hopefully it didn't gain too much weight. Mazda needed this to compete with the upcoming Pontiac Solstice and others on the way.

thats been on the miata forum for a couple of days. I can say I am glad I have a 1st gen. And i do not think I will look past the 2nd gen for the body. That is truely horrible and a departure from what i think of when i think miata (mx5).

it is suppose to come with a 2.0lt motor making 170hp and 13X Tq

looks a little bit like an s2000 from the front.. but I have to say I do like it quite a bit. It's streamlined and looks a little more menacing. I'd actually think about picking one up now..

it gets my seal of approval! (cool)

I feel like there are too many ovals on the front of the car...looking at the hood from the top, the grill, the headlights and even the bumper lenses are kinda ovalish.

Bumper lenses also should have been integrated with the headlamp.

Less ovaltine please.

The new MX-5 is sexy for sure but THIS is what I'm waiting on:

Upon more observation I am really liking it, except the quasi-robotic "look on it's face".

Someone called it "menacing", but I guess I'd rather see a bit more pleasant emotion on it's face like the previous models.
But don't read too much into that, as I am sure that is just the unwillingness to let the MX-5 "spread her wings and fly" or rather evolve into the more serious roadster that she will be.

*sigh*....they grow up so quickly... (lol2)

Motor Trend says July and that it's dropping Miata to join the rest of the world with just "MX-5."

Maybe the new six-speed auto will make it's way to the RX-8....

But I am biased ;)

Oops, only now did I see Antoine & others' question about the "Miata" name. Officially, the "Miata" name is gone. However, many (including MazdaUSA) will still use the Miata name to refer to it and help make clear what this vehicle really is. But the badge on the back of the N. American-spec vehicle will say "MX-5".

Here's a great article for the official word, but the jist of it is what I described.

lol, did you see the image caption: "Dropping the Miata name from the little roadster can potentially save Mazda millions in badge manufacturing costs." (uhm)
