I was wondering if anyone could help me with the wiring to instal speakers in the back "dummy" doors, how to run the amp, etc. in a 2002 Protege ES. I have an Alpine CDA-7893 w/ Ai-Net and have 5x7 Infinity Kappa speakers in the fron and 6x9 in the back (all 2-way speakers). But I want to put Infinity Kappa 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 in the back doors (the passenger doors). Has anyone done this...how did you run your wiring and power the speakers? Is there a hole in the metal of the back doors already..there is the speaker vent already... I guess use a 6 channel amp? I really want to use an Alpine amp, but I don't think they make one w/ 6 channels. I saw a AUDIOBAHN A6601T 6 channel amp with 75W RMS x 6. Any thoughts?

just use more than one amp. a 2 and a 4 channel.

I don't think your sound will be affected that much in the front of the car with this addition, however I guess your rear passengers may enjoy.

IMO, a component set (with seperate tweets) in your front doors would be a much better addition to the setup you stated. and none of this back door business or 6 channels to be concerned with.

You don't think the 5th and 6th speakers will make a differance to make it worth it? I obviously wouldn't want to waste the money on the amps if its not going to make a sound quality improvement. Should I just power the 4 speakers I already have with a 4 channel to give them more watts?

I don't think adding 2 more speakers in your rear doors will benefit your SQ enough for the cost.

Powering the existing 4 with a 4 channel amp should be an improvement over running them off the HU alone. Although it appears that your HU puts out a decent amount of power.

I still think a new set of component speakers in the front will get you more of the SQ you're looking for over adding a 2nd set in the rear doors. Getting those tweeters up closer to your ears will really help. I imagine you hear your 6x9's more than your front 5x7's now, although I may be wrong. Just figure that when you add a pair in the rear doors, you'll hear them even less, than those in the front.

Unless you need more bass, then adding subs is the only way to go.

Thanks for the advice...I have had Infinity Reference components in the past. I liked them...but when I had to get different speaker sizes over the course of getting different vehicles..I decided to upgrade to the kappas on my second vehicle which is the 5X7's in the front and I have 5 1/4 kappas left over...thats why I ask really...I have the 6X9's in the mail comin monday. I think my headunit is only 26RMS x 4. The Infinity KAPPA 572.5CF 5" x 7" are 100Watts RMS and the Infinity KAPPA 692.5I 6" x 9" are 110Watts RMS.

general concensious (sp) is that these are unnessary and will not do much for your listening pleasure....actually a lot of people on this board believe that the rear 6x9's even are more than you need. i personally like the fill these provide, but do not see the need for the rear door speakers. i had thought about throwing some 8's in the rear doors, but never got around to checking the depth and mounting options to tell you if thats worth it or not. by the way, this should probably be in the audio section, the guys there know everything...

those 6x9's in the mail should help immensely. see what you think when you get them in.

FYI: the 5-1/4's you have will/would have fit into the 5x7 spot in the front with a bracket. in fact, I have 6-1/2's in my fronts.

I really thought about doing this as well.

My question would be this:

If you have a 4 channel amp running the front and rear speakers, couldn't you run the speaker wire from the head unit to the speakers in the rear doors??

I know the sound quality wouldn't be as good as the amped speakers, but it's just an idea......

I think I am going to get the Alpine MRV-F540 Amp:
# 700 total watts max output
# 100 x 4 watts RMS @ 2 ohms
# 80 x 4 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
# 200 x 2 watts RMS (when bridged)
# 2, 3, or 4-channel output amplifier
# Tri-way capable
# front and rear channel crossovers high pass and low pass
# Blue Power LED
# MOSFET power supplied
# Low internal noise with state of the art technology
# Preamp outs
# ultra efficient power and ground connections
# gold-plated screw terminals
# Convenient top mounted controls with cover
# detachable front cover
# Dimensions: 16-1/2"W x 2-1/2"H x 9-7/8"D

But I really want to get an amp that can push 100Watts RMS x 4...
