Front Suspension or maybe front motor mount:
I have this loud ass clunk that happens from the drivers side front from time to time. I checked my crossmember and it's tight, I put in a new thrust bearing (old one was still good) but what the heck, and it still happens time to time. It can happen either turning or going straight but mostly happens when I'm turning and I hit a slight bump. Someone said that the swaybar mounting bracket broke on theirs, but I don't get this clunk all the time. Every once in awhile it happens and it's loud as hell. Almost like something is binding up. I was thinking the lower control arm bolts were to tight causing something to happen but quickly let that idea go, then the crossmember, but it's tight. I have no idea, HELP!

I had this problem for a bit. I could duplicate it by driving agressively and by hitting the brakes heavily. It seemed to snap back and forth if you catch my drift. Hit brakes hard as hell, it snaps back. Launch the car it would snap forward. It was a loud popping sound and it was related to my DS suspension for sure.
Now someone crashed into my car and all that is getting replaces so it should be fixed.
Here's my old thread.

What the hell is DS suspension... sorry, lost me on that one. So what do you think it was????? What part to be specific.
I have new front and rear bushings in the car, the new 'E' series one with only about 3000 miles on them. Stock Springs, no suspension mods at all.

Sorry, I meant drivers side suspension. I think it was a control arm bushing or something. I checked everything and it was tight. Check the bolts on the top of the strut and make sure they are secure. Also make sure your lug nuts are tight of course.
Try doing what I did and lay into the brakes at speed and see if it does it. Then come to a stop and take off agressively and see if it does it again. Mine would go back and forth. For instance I couldnt hit the brakes and get it to make the noise twice in a row. I would have to make it do it taking off, then braking, taking off, then braking. In a lot of twisties it would do it but it wasnt predictable that way.
I could not get mine diagnosed. Unfortunately/fortunately someone crashed into me and the car is getting a new strut, tie rods, and control arm. Should solve the problem I hope.

well, can't duplicate the problem, any other ideas of what to look at? Going to look at sway bar brackets on Saturday when I replace my SS brakelines with new ones.

I'm having that same problem when i installed the exhuast when i turn the wheel it goes clunk clunk like the springs not having a bearing on them or something. But only when its cold after that it goes away.

hey check this out. I had the same exact problem. Basically when I got my tires rotates at discount tire they didn't tighten the drivers side wheel correctly. You couldn't tell by looking at it but when I jacked it up it had about a half of inch of play. So I tightened the lugs and the problem went away. I seriously spent hours looking at the suspension and underneath the car before I accidently figured it out.

I don't have a tire problem... it's something different. Today when I put my 2nd set of Corksport SS brake lines on I looked at my Sway Bar bushings (which I changed a while back) and they were tight, and everything else looks good... I have no idea what the hell it is..

OK, I can now replicate the problem..... If I turn the steering wheel either direction then accelerate hard, say like I'm making a right turn from a stop at a light, then it makes a loud knock then goes away. Either direction I turn does it, I'm starting to think CV-Axle. I've double checked my sway bar bushings and mounts, all secure and tight and the new series front bushings are already installed. The endlinks are tight, the wheels are torqued down, I got an alignment, which car still pulls to right, car going back to dealer to have them fix that, i have the spec sheet if anyone is interested ....I can try and get is scanned if you want... anyway, send your ideas, i really am starting to think that it's the CV-Axle(s) going back and knocking like that. I mean when they go they usually go when your turning from what I've heard, but they only knock if I accelerate hard in a turn, say getting into traffic making a right or a left, and if I hit a bump while turning it amplifies the problem.

CV joints typically make noise when turning one direction. They make more of a knock-knock-knock type of noise not a single pop. Any chance you have a motor mount wih a loose bolt(s)? I don't know! I hate strange noises!

it does it when i turn hard right and hit a little bump or pot hole ... sometimes when i brake hard too
dealer seems to think its normal =\

I've got it, and it sounds like many others do as well. That's not normal, so Monday when I recreate this for my dealer i'll see what they say...... Normal my ass. If that's normal they can have the fucking car back. I hope they can fix it, mine does it all the time........fucking sucks.

lemme get this straight... it's a loud ass pop correct? cuz mine just pops really loud and then that's it, it's done making noises.

yep.... then nothing.... one loud popper then silence..... then you feel like oh shit, something just broke, but wait, that's normal..hahahaha!
I'll see what happens tomorrow at the stealership.
