So my friend said he priced getting his 3 turbocharged and supercharged. He told me the best prices he found were $9k for a turbo and $15k for a supercharge. Anybody able to shed some light on this? can that even be close to right?

depends on what your talking about. to install it yourself wouldn't be that expensive. certain shops might charge that much to install and tune it.

You can get cheap or expensive.
Cheap will give you very little.
Expensive can get you as much as 300% HP...
Check out the rebuild photo journal for a look at a modest

Mental Addiction and HiBoost are both currently working on Turbo kits for the 2.3L (and with HiBoost, 2.0L) Mazda 3 vehicles.
They should run you around $3000-$4500 depending on what happens by the time they are done.
We aren't sure yet how much HP/TQ the car's transmission can handle though, or how much boost the stock internals. Is your friend's pricing including a complete engine and tranny build up as well?

for the 15k you'd spend outside the cost of the car, why not sell the car and add that 15k for the turbo into a Mazdaspeed 6 ?
3500-4500 sounds much more reasonable. add maybe another 1000 for install if ya don't do it yourself with a few friends.
