03 versus 03.5 MSP Wing [Archive]

The most distinct feature between the 03' and 03.5' MSP is obviously the rear spoiler.
Just wanted get everyones' opinion on which one they like better.
I'm kinda partial to the old style simply because the new wing isn't that aggressive looking (compared to say...the WRX STi).

Can anyone comment on how functional the wings really are, I mean does either of them provide any handling advantage? Rear wing on FWD car...

Anyways, if I gotta pick, I say 03 > 03.5. I kinda want to remove my wing, but I think it would cost to much to have the holes filled and painted to be worth it for me.

yeah whoever said "depends on the colors" is right IMO. I voted 03.5 because I like my car! but i'd rather have a black 03 with a 03 wing > a 3.5 wing

i go for 03.5 not cos i have one but because it resembles the original speed wing on the 2gen protege/familia. Also, it has a better benefit in putting th rear down to avoid shaking on fast speeds. The center post on the 03 i think creates a vortices the basically disturb the flow of air at high speed. while the 03.5 just flows straight into it. also the side of the wing is slanted to drive away air faster...hehe aerodynamics..lol

ya have u noticed that the 03.5 wing shakes violently at anything over 60? The 03 wing won't do that because of hte center post. But that just means the trunk is better more abuse. my 2 cents

03.5 looks better to me. the MP3 and 03 wings are too low and flat. Kinda weird looking in a Japanese sort of way.

I've never noticed my wing move at any speed.

I've never seen any factual information regarding the functionality of these wings. I just consider it yet another glued on piece of plastic to make this car look different. Since that is all they do then choosing becomes a matter of personal taste.

like i said, theres an effect on the flow of the air at fast speed on spoiler. The more aerodynamic the spoiler the better the smooth flow of wind. Without spoiler, the wind that comes off your roof and side of car creates a disturbance known as EDDIES AND VORTICES ( if it serves my memory right from my aerodynamic days). It is just a common knowledge that its useless cos car makers makes it more of a design add on rather than design reason. Why would the wrc cars have wings? well cos they go fast and they even design it where it is also aerodynamic while the car is going sideways. just my 2 cents.

I'm partial to the '03 wing (it's what I have). But what I really want, and I've mentioned this a while ago on a different thread, is the newes M3 style spoiler. They look so clean, and would be sweet kinda sleeper style. But funds and skills have left this to my imagination.

^^you sound like a hardcore cynic...is the glass half-empty for you? just playin' man...but most people see an MP3 a 03MSP and a 3.5 MSP and say they're the same car....and i think rice would be one of those skinny metal black spoilers that are meant for actual racing applications haha.

This is one close vote. I have to say the first time I saw the 03.5 wing I thought it looked bad but that thing grew on me and now I love it.

The Titanium with the 03 wing is so strange-looking. It works though. I'd like to see the same thing in yellow.

Yeah, has anyone done that. I would love to see a pic. I personally like the 03 wing better. The 03.5 wing is cool but really annoying when looking in my rearview. I'd be willing to trade for an 03 wing if that would be at all possible.

After seeing those pics I now like my 03.5 wing better. Forget about trading for one. I just wish there wasn't those open spaces on each side of it. I wish the whole thing was flush with the decklid. But thanks for the pics I can now sleep well at night.

a mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata. They're badass. they shoved a bunch of crap under the hood, including a turbo and nice FMIC. Ive heard they have the best handling ever, and power is very readily available. I could be wrong, but i think they're packin' more horses than an MSP.

No, I believe the MSM is packing an FMIC. Horsepower is about the same...175hp. However, I'm sure it's lighter than the MSP, so I'm sure it's faster. Plus, I hear there's more aftermarket support than for the MSP.
