okay, it's about time for me to say this.........the wheel hop has got to go away. i can't even get on the gas in second gear because once i do, the car goes nuts and hop hop hop hop away we go. i was motor mounts would pry be the easiest and cheapest way out. i'm going to lower it eventually and guessing that will do it too. but can someone just give me the easiest way for now? thanx all!

AWR is the only one i know of, but he sells 2 types, automatic and manual
automatic is slightly softer that manual but is still very effective
i have manual in front and automatic in the back, no wheel hop whatsoever. Just be ready for a lot of shacking during the first weeks if u do get the rear mount

lol, that should be "shaking", your car will shake more because the mounts are not absorbing the vibrations as much as before, but instead transmitting them to the rest of the car.
The manual ones are supposed to be stiffer, giving less chance of wheel hop and more shaking.
Turfburn is currently developing a set for replacing all 4 mounts, front/back, side to side.
Failing all that, try taking it easy on the throttle and your wheel hop will magically disappear. ;)

I guess that this (http://protege5online.com/For_Sale_Page/AWR_Motor_Mounts/awr_motor_mounts.html) is where most people get them, but the image is not loading for me

there r 2 types of motor mounts made by AWR, the automatic and manual
supponsinly, the automatic is for the automatic transmition cars, and the manual is for the manual transmition cars
the automatic motor mouns r 'softer' than the manual motor mounts, but r still VERY rigid none the less
ok, now, AWR sells 2 motor mounts per kit(automatic and manual kits), the front and the rear, they r a straight replacement to ur oem motor mounts, only the AWR r much tougher, the front motor mount is located on the bottom part of the engine bay, just in between the radiator and engine, instalation for this mount is 15 minues tops
by installing only the front motor mount, u will eliminate wheel hop significantly, and the car will feel much better overall
the rear motor mount is behind the engine and is very hard to see unless u know what u r looking for, this motor mount connects directly to the firewall, and thus to the cabin, meaning u will feel a LOT of vibration, especially during the 2 week break in period
Dammit, i hope i'm making sense, by changing the rear motor mount, u will have effectiably killed wheel hop, and shifting will improve as well, but now ur dask will ratle until the mount is broken into, after a month, it will be much better
u have to understand that wheel hop is the engine vibrating, and thus making the wheels jumped, by installing the motor mounts, the engine can't move, and thus u say bye bye to wheel hop
i really hope this helps, let me if i missed somehting

thanx jcell, that was a very helpful and very detailed tip. i knew how to chance the front mount, but now i can say i can pry figure out the rear mount. now when you say vibration on the dash.......for the break in period being 2 weeks, give or take a week, does it go away for good? or is one of the those things that just takes 2 weeks to get used to it then you don't notice it anymore cuz your used to it by now? i'd like to do both but if the rear one is going to "shake rattle on roll" then i'll have to sleep on it

it does go away, but not completly, i can still feel it from 700-1100 rpms, but other than that, it's unoticable
i wouldn't change it for the world, the pros > the cons by a lot IMO

Keep in mind AWR now offers a new "AT softness" transmission mount insert. I will be the first to test it when I put it in on Saturday.

The rear one will forever rattle your dash. Yes, I said forever. You DO get used to it after a while and it isn't quite so bad then. I had my AWRs in for about a year and just got sick of them -- too much rattling for me and too much NOISE. Whether new mounts are worth it will forever be debated on here.

My thoughts exactly.

Sweet! I didn't know this! Let us know how it works out -- my main complaint of the AWR mounts was that the bushing itself was too small. So an insert would solve that.

Had the automatics. Still too much vibration and noise, and they didn't break in. I did get used to it, it just wasn't worth it though. When I switched back to stock you realize that you're just used to the vibration and noise and that the mounts didn't break in at all.

I am not sure what you mean by this:

Just FYI,
The new tranny mount insert is just that, a poly insert only. It fills the air gap on the pre-existing transmission mount, it does not replace the entire mount.

Oh, I thought it was an actual full bushing replacement for the stock mount. Even just an "insert" to fill the air gaps though will help I'm sure....but I wish somebody would make a bushing replacement for the stock mounts. That's what I was hoping AWR did. Guess not though.

that's weird, i guess it because of the turbo, i also have the rear in automatic but i can't fell them during normal driving, only when it goes from idle to running, but nothing too crazy...

Yeah, that's exactly my experience too JCell -- it was the worst in the transition from idle to moving. But there was alot of vibration that you just get used too. Plus the cabin noise - to me is was like having a cheap exhaust and basically I had to go from having my radio at "18" to instead at "21" to hear music decent. When I put the stock mounts back in it was a MAJOR shock -- can't even tell the engine is running without looking at the tach. Wheel hop does suck though...so it's a trade off. My opinion is it's only worth it if you auto-x or drag race a LOT.

Now u got it!
can i ask. if they are too still for everyone then why dont you just fill the stock ones?
on my spec v i filled my motor mounts with 3m window weld and i had no wheel hop unless i launched very high and nobody could tell at all, didn't notice much more vibrations at all
