So I've been doing a ton of night driving and I'm sick of seeing the same or very similar tail design on as the stock msp on like every other car (I guess I never cared during daylight). I've spent hours searching this site for options and have seen all the altezza gens and colors and really really need another option...has anyone done ANYTHING else for their tails (already saw the dude who tinted his stocks), but any custom LED jobs or tail mods of some kind, seriously ANYTHING, even ideas count..or is it even possible to do a total custom fabrication? pics if you got'em would be cool

Hmm...just an idea here. How about some flat black tape, and cutting out a design in the middle (like the mazda symbol)? Then apply the tape to the tails so the design lights up but the rest is blacked out.

well, if you look at the euro design, you can see that part of the inside of the taillight housing looks like it could easily handle a nicely sized board of LED's, which could prolly be done with the right motivation and know how. I mean, I think it'd be cool to have a full LED tail light, reverse lights and all, just one board of LED's, and control each section etc. I think it'd look cool...could it work is the question

Around my town, I've only ever seen one Protege sedan with tails that weren't stock, so I figured they were tough to get, or just weren't around that many places. I always wondered if there was a light set with LEDs. I'd also like to see what else there is around, cuz I'll definately be in the market for some soon.

I like the tinted headlights, but not the tinted tails so much. If anything, I'll probably find a set of LED bulbs for the stock lights, or some other set.

Bluebatmobile Redouts. Not really visible at night from distance but it gets rid of that Euro pink look and does make them different.

hmmm..the redouts might have to do until I can get more info on whether or how LEDs would work.
thanks for the advice and pics..

This is a funny thread to me... I just picked up a 3.5 MSP and the first thing I was thinking is how to enhance the tails. Does anyone have a pic of a full smoked tail? I'm coming from a 93 MX-6 where we couldn't even get altezza's for our cars so everyone was very creative with our taillight work. I've seen some sick conversions on the 6 most comon being the supra tails or the JDM MR2 tails. Haven't figured out which swap would work the best on the Protege. But you can spray tint the tails easily with Testors translucent black spray paint or if you want to make them all red and not by the overlay, you can buy testors transluscent red from your local hobby shop. Should save you a couple of bucks. the MSP is titanium so I'm thinking smoked with the clear signal will look real slick but I'm not sure yet

agreed on the smoked out looking nice, I've seen some silver/darker grey GTIs and newer Civics with smoky tails and they look veery nice...I'm still thinking about a custom LED job, just haven't had the motivation to look into it any further (esp after my audio crashed and I thought I was going to have to dump serious cash into that) but this might get my ass in gear...if you do anything please be sure to post some pics up here...

Yeah, I like that all black look, makes it look real trick. I think i'm going to tint everything but the clear back-up light, to do something a little different. We'll see though, innevitably some will bleed onto it pissing me off and making me just do the whole tail...

I've done some serious taillight painting in my past... like I said previously, I had an MX-6 before the MSP and there are no aftermarket lights for that car. MX6.com had like a little taillight mod cult going where we all tried to out do each other. I've seen some sick conversions to the rear of that car craziest I ever saw was someone who put Skyline R33 tails on it, which to this day I haven't been able to figure out how he got to fit!!! I never got that crazy, didn't want to deal with cutting and fiberglassing and all that for my tails, but I've done the tint, I've done the red out, I've done the Body color minus circles, I've done just about everything that can be done without actually changing them.

Oh and about the red euro's, don't buy them from Corksport, you'll pay out the anus for them... You can definitely find them for less than have them on there. In fact my experience with Corksport is that they are exceptionally overpriced for everything they have on there, so do your searching before resorting to spending money with them...
