how much oil does the 2.3l engine need when you change it? is it 4 quarts? thanks.

Mine is 6quarts. (glare)
But stock is around 5quarts.
Mine, as the manual states holds 4 1/2 US quarts with the filter change. My first oil change, the dummy put in 5 quarts, which way overfilled it. He had to do it again. I made sure I told the next oil hockey it was 4 1/2 quarts, and I was going to check it before I leave. It was right on the full mark, as it should be.

thats wierd that its 4 1/2 quarts.... thats the exact same amount my focus held and it had a smaller engine....

yeah its 4.5 quarts.
It's not the size of the engine (liters) it's how much the oil pan holds. Going back to older Ford's, the Pinto SOHC 4 banger held 5 quarts, as did the Ranger 4 banger, which basically had the same engine.
oil pan+stupid fawkin cartride=4.5 all years Rumor 03 built 2.3 was 4.5 and 04 built was 4.9 If you pull dipstick after driving and see buples then you have too much.
