I wonder if 8 inches wide rims would fit my MSP (17 inches diameter) and then what should be the offset? Has anyone tried this?

I don't know but I've always wondered. I know the tri point protege ran 8" wide racing hart's. Soo soo hot. Any body know what it took for them to fit those suckers in there.

if you shave the HELL outta your fenders you can do it, with the correct offset. There is no point in running 17x8's.

The point would be to have very straight sidewalls and if someone wants to put 225 tires, 7˝ to 8 inches is what's reccomended (the ideal). For the offset I'm thinking that +50 may work if the treadwidth of the tire is no more than 8 in, but I'm not sure...

7.5" is plenty of width for a 225.

You'll need a hell of an offset to fit an 8" rim under there..

I posted this question b/c someone was selling 8 in. wide rims for very cheap (7.5 in. are hard to come by). The ideal for a 225 tire is 7.5 in. and, depending on offset, it would prolly fit fairly easy. But I'm not sure about 8 in. b/c you have to find room for 26 mm although it might still be possible (without rolling the fenders)

its possible, with the prefect offset. but you'd probably be forced to run a 215 tire on it. so you lose any potential benefit from running a wider tire. so really its hindering you by adding weight.
as for 7.5" wheel selection, there are plenty out there.

our stock RH rims are 17" x 7" they can handle a 225/45/ZR17, But I like a 215/35/ZR17

I hope the roads are good where you live! In my city I would bend a rim just by going around the block :(

yea but the tire doesn't sit flat on the road so any extra width you gained is basically canceled out.
the SWC cars modify their fenders quite a bit to run 17x8's and they don't even need to since they use a 225 tire.
