Saturn Aura concept
Type of vehicle: Mid-sized sedan
The AutoWeek Take: Forget everything you know about Saturn's slow plod into mediocrity. Though the Aura is technically labeled a concept, this one goes into production next year in time for a summer introduction. Built on a long-wheelbase version of the same chassis under the Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3 and Opel Vectra, the front-drive sedan is powered by a 3.6-liter 250-hp V6 mated to a six-speed tapshift automatic. Thanks for the Euro styling cues go to a team made up of designers from GM's European and U.S. studios. As a combo package with its sibling Sky, this duo was pretty close to taking home AutoWeek's award for Most Significant.
Production possibility: Definite. The Aura will debut in summer 2006.
Designers: Ryan Vaughan, interior, and Tim Kozub, exterior; GM chief designer Ed Welburn is shown
