Saturn Aura concept

Type of vehicle: Mid-sized sedan
The AutoWeek Take: Forget everything you know about Saturn's slow plod into mediocrity. Though the Aura is technically labeled a concept, this one goes into production next year in time for a summer introduction. Built on a long-wheelbase version of the same chassis under the Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3 and Opel Vectra, the front-drive sedan is powered by a 3.6-liter 250-hp V6 mated to a six-speed tapshift automatic. Thanks for the Euro styling cues go to a team made up of designers from GM's European and U.S. studios. As a combo package with its sibling Sky, this duo was pretty close to taking home AutoWeek's award for Most Significant.
Production possibility: Definite. The Aura will debut in summer 2006.
Designers: Ryan Vaughan, interior, and Tim Kozub, exterior; GM chief designer Ed Welburn is shown

Not bad, except for the front.
I think the lines, particularly the side and roof views, look like the A4, A6.
Not feeling the shit-brown leather seats though.

I've never been much of a fan of Saturn. I feel, for the most part, with the amount of shared parts, GM vehicles are far too generic. Saturn, for the most part, is just a gimick. No haggle pricing? P-lease! Haggling RULES! The plastic side panels are somewhat cool (to some) but aren't enough to propel Saturn higher than the mighty Suzuki on my "Power Rankings" list. In other words... Saturn really blows!

I know many of you agree. However, put that resentment aside and judge this vehicle on it's own merit. Since no one has (or will) complain about the power, let's look at the styling. Overall, I like it. I could do without the awkward 3rd gen Maxima fender flares (perhaps they'll alter it a bit before the rollout), insanely large headlamps (take that crap off the top and they'll look 1000 times better), ugly ass, pea soup colored gauges & equally ugly colored (see shit brown) seats and steering wheel.

Those things aside, as far as looks are concerned, Saturn may finally have a winner. But is this a good thing? If it wasn't for rental car companies and "company cars", Saturn would have been out of business a long time ago. I pesonally feel this car is too nice to be delegated to that role. Oddly enough, mediocrity has allowed them to thrive in this market. Now it looks as if they want to compete against the big dogs.
Unless this car is better (and it won't be) than its competion AND priced lower (no haggle pricing = you get screwed), this car won't stand a chance.

I think once this car is produced, it'll be able to proudly stand next to the Cadillacs as the best look domestic sedans on the market. Even the interior looks good.

its a Saturn G6 basically...I like saturns idea better, though a production car would NEVER look like THAT!
