I had my MSP in for the reflash with my intake, hardpipes and bov and it was performed without a hassle. On my invoice it mentioned that all warranty work on my motor was void and that digital pics of my engine bay were sent to Mazda. I didn't really pay attention to it. I was in last week cuz my cd player wasn't working. The service advisor called me down when they were done. She informed me that my vin number and title were branded W1 which means nothing on my car was covered under warranty. Not even the broken cd player. She then told me they took pics last time I was there and emailed them to Mazda and as soon as they saw the pics they branded my vin. They fixed it anyhow but my next visit would cost me money. She said my intake was the reason. I called Mazda and they told me I was screwed. I requested to talk to a higher up. The Mazda guy referred me back to the service advisor at the dealership I go to to contact Mazda's warranty dept. They reevaluated my car and changed my warranty classification so that everything was covered except for my motor. I had to fight for that just to have a limited warranty just for an air intake. WTF? I don't get it. And since those pics were taken there is no way of reversing their decision. Why is Mazda so sensitive about the MSP? This experience took me by surprise. I can't even have an air intake or bov. Just thought I should let my fellow MSP ers know about this. What a joke.

There is such a wide variance among dealerships out there. I don't think its a Mazda specific issue. Its just the dealers way of making more profit and denying your warranty claim. Their bread is buttered with service work and used car sales.
My dealer will not work on a modded car either. Which is why I never go back to them. I took everything off just to get reflashed and bushings. So far, no major problems @ 40,715 miles.
Warranties are easily voided and thus a joke in my opinion. Mazda doesn't give a crap about the MSP owners.
At least you were able to retain part of your warranty.

which is why I'm stock (now)..even at 54K miles, which is well past the basic warranty. However, I paid for the extended & don't want any shizzle if anything were to happen.
Sorry to hear about your woes...but at least you did get back the coverage for everything else.

You should list the Name and Location of this service department, so others know to avoid it. Also, tell all your local Mazda-owning buddies about it.

What dealership did you go to so I know...Morries?
I go to Luther in Brooklyn Park, MN. They give a little hassle, which is fine an expected....but never drop a bomb like that.
Thanks,
Ryan

Bah, warrenties are for pussies anyway :P I gave mine up a LOOOOONG time ago. There will be a lot of arguement on the matter of warranty on these boards. But even with such things as the mm act, the dealer/service center still holds the right to void the warrenty of your car (check your manual for details). If you're really worried about warrenty work just jet down to another dealership and see if there aren't any asses there...

Why on earth, after seeing all the problems on this board, would anyone take their car in modded? I keep my stock shit in a box for that very reason.

Because some dealerships are cool about it.

Ok see dealers really have no reason to void warranties.
Why because they get paid to do warranty by mazda. So guess what they make more money if they are fixing ur mazdaspeed vs if u take ur car else where.
BTW did I mention my dealer is cool about things. Anyways even than i'm not risking voiding my warranty. Stock for me still.

Don't they have to prove that the mod caused the problem? How on earth would an intake affect the radio? When I last took it in to get the muffler replaced (it was cracked), they mentioned that my exhaust was after market, but they couldn't prove that it caused the muffler to crack, so they replaced it under warranty. I know pretty much if I blow my engine, it won't be warrantied, I can live with that since I put on the mods. But if I have a clunk, or suspension prob, or anything else interior, they better warranty it!

What up Ying?
Met you at D&B a couple of weeks ago. Just curious what dealer you are using. I haven't taken any chances with the dealer I bought my MSP from yet eventhough one of the service reps is a friend of mine.

I have never read any warranty forums on here before and figured an air intake and bov wouldn't be an issue. Didn't know the dealerships were such pussies.

I went to Morries in Minnetonka. They're very nice and the service director is an awesome guy but from the sounds of it they fucked me over. Why wouldn't they ask me before taking pics of my car. It's my fricken car. I'm gonna stop going there for sure.

I would let your finance company know, you are stopping payments untill the car is fixed properly next time it needs warr work.
""""
Depends.... I have used this twice now. Neither time have I had to actually go all the way and file the papers and withhold payment. It seems that the threat of taking this action is enough.
I did contact the finance company to inform them of my intentions, they called the dealer and all of a sudden the dealer is able to fix my problem, get those back ordered parts, reproduce the problem - well you get the idea.
As for the comment about "MODS" a dealer or manufacturer cannot deny the repair of your vehicle under warranty strictly because you have installed modifications. They have to show that the mods you added directly contributed/caused the failure.
Example: You added a high flow cat, and the radiator line starts leaking. The dealer would have to show that the mod caused the leak. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Dealers may threaten, deny or just be a pain in th A**, but when it comes right down to it you the consumer have most of the rights on your side and the "Holder in due course" law is a way for you to enlist the aid of another company to fight your battles and negate the dealers/manufacturer advantage of size and money.
An informed consumer is a dangerous consumer - Companies Beware!
How to get Mazda's attention and get things fixed!
Just a suggestion.
I am in the process of using a rule of law which applies to anyone who has had their MSP FINACED through the dealer. In the US there is a rule called "Holder in due course" what this means is that you can use the holder of your finance contract as a means of forcing Mazda to fix your car. All finance contract have the following language in them:
NOTICE" any holder of this consumer credit contract is subject to all claims and defenses which the debtor could assert against the seller of goods or services obtained pursuant hereto or with the proceeds hereof. Recovery here-under shall not exceed amounts paid by the debtor hereunder"
What basically happens is that you notify your loan company in writing that you are using this rule. Then you stop making your payments. You put your car payments into a separate bank account until the problem is fixed. It is amazing to watch how fast Mazda comes around when it is their finance company who is trying to get something done.
If you look on the WEB you can find various examples of this rule being used and in some cases you cannot only get your car fixed, but if it is shown that the company is knowingly not fixing something they should have you can recover up to treble damages.
Hope this helps. The more of us who use tools like this the faster Mazda will just take care of the issues to make us go away."""
