i've got an 87 b2200 ext. cab truck, and i'm interested in installing a v-8 into it this summer. from what i've read, the 302 and the 305 are fairly easy swaps. just wondering on which engine, and tranny i should go with, also should i swap out my rear diff for something a little stronger. im not sure of the axle specs, but i think the gearing is 4.10's or 4.11's. would the stock rear end handle the v-8 power??

I'm not sure but I'll post my 2 cents...What is the stock engine in that truck? I would think the stock axle/suspension/chassis is in no way able to withstand V8 torque (depending on how much and how hard you drive it)...you want to go with carbs or fuel injection?

Sounds like an interesting project :D

stock engine is a 3 liter v6 i believe like the ones in the ranger and aerostar of the same year. transmission is from a mustang IIRC. the b-series/ranger/aerostar/explorer all have the same running gear and it should be able to handle a v8.

Good info...yeah with those specs...thought it might have had a smaller 6 or a big 4...but with the ford parts connection...it may be suitable for a v8...but only a mild v8 setup?

i know the newer rangers come with a 2.3 liter four or the 4.0 v6. not sure if the 4 was available back then though

My truck came with, and still has the original 4 banger in it. a whopping 2.2 litres of mazda power. it also has a 5 speed stick. but if i go with a ford 5.0L, probably a mustang 5 speed. if i go with the chevy 305, i was thinkin about a standard for it, but not sure from which kind of vehicle. im not planning on racing this once its done, but i would like something that is geared low in the first couple of gears so i can light up the rear end easy.. or does any one else have any ideas about engine swaps.. i am able to instal just about anything, as i have the space and tools to do it, but im lookin for something with some power, and a nice sound to 'er..

Not that far back though....only later like in the 90s did mazda start using the Ford trucks. 87 is all mazda

They're working on it....he's been banned many times, keeps popping back up. Kinda like herpes...can make it disappear, but it pops back up quickly!
