For those who care about this. Mazda Canada released fuel consumption specs today, 24 city/ 34 highway.

Thats 20 city/ 29 highway for my American friends.

why does the Canadian version get better mileage then the US version?

I would imagine emissions/tuning.

It doesn't. We use Imperial gallons up here which are slightly larger than U.S. gallons. 24/34 Imperial gallons converts to 20/29 U.S. gallons.

wtf??? imperial gallons????

wait till we throw in litres!!! the usual canadian standard for fuel consumption is X number of litres consumed for every 100 kilometres (60 miles) travelled...

but for your gallons: it's 1.2 US Gallon for 1 Imperiral Gallon.

Cat,

It would probably be cost prohibitive. Mazdaspeed parts usually carry a price premium on them. You'd have to wait till someone destroyed their MPS and get the salvage from that. Don't know how it would work with the standard 6i with the transfer case and all. But where there is a will, there is a way. As long as there is enough $$$$$$. :)

I just read a french article stating that the transmission was geared to take advantage of the engine's flat torque curve.... might as well forget that one unless someone's willing to re-gear the damn thing...

I say screw gas mileage until the vehicle has prooven itself in other ways. I picked up a french auto magazine when I was in Belgium over the holidays, they had already test drove the car and said that the front wheels skid very easily on tight corners. To me, it confirms that it is a understeering pig at 3600 pounds. The AWD with active torque split is useless to keep it riding with stability on very tight high speed bends if you cant get any Horsepower to the rear wheels. The car is all about looks, a very strong powertrain and a comfortable drive for a daily driver car. As mentioned before, it should not be caompared with STI's, EVO's and whoever might want to compare it with RX-8's.

yep no speed badge should be used(Mazda 6i-S) but nothing we can do about that now.
