View Full Version : VBulletin Upgrade
Well, since there was some severe vulnerability in VB and since I kept postponing it for other reasons, I bit the bullet and upgraded to the latest VB.
The upload files will not work for now.
It is additionally possible that other stuff may be broken. If so, please let me know. Thanks.

seems alot faster

I agree with the speed thing.
The formatting of everything on the main page seems a little off. It used to be able to all fit in a window with only up/down scrolling. Now it's side to side scrolling as well.
I like all the purdy GUI changes though.

Two things...
I click on the "FORUM INDEX" link in the link bar at the top and it takes me NOWHERE.....also the PM ME link in the post on the front page takes you to a CLOSED thread by Dino!...... something is a miss. the only way I got into the forum was to go to the bottom of that misdirected post and use the forum jump.

PM ME has been like that for so long... if you look at katsmp3 youll see a tally thats one point for dino right there.
Secondly homepage takes forever to load i just go straight to User CP now its that much quicker.
third WYSIWYG works 50/50 for me now i can rarely click in the text box im typing in right now, it almost always requires a reload.
fourth usercp doesnt seem to refresh it self its time it loads open.
lastly the edit button is still old school VB graphic... its not the new rounded xp verison looking one.

I can't access the forum index either...And for some reason, the WYSIWYG editor keeps dropping(scrolling) to the very bottom of the page when it refreshes. I just got online, so that's all I noticed. I'd try to help find more, but I can't access the forum;)
Edit: Regarding the forum index part...I can't access it from the main page, but I can access it through one of the threads(ie: newest topics section).

Looking good so far, personally hate the WYSIWYG editor so I don't use it and hope to get the upload files function back eventually :)
Looks like the link off the main page leads to http://www.msprotege.com/forum/adv_index.php
and the correct link to take you to the forum index should be
http://www.msprotege.com/forum/index.php
should be a quick and easy fix ;)

Oooohhh...I noticed something new. Now we can go directly to the last post posted on the newest topics section. I like it.
Umm. I can't seem to delete posts now.

oOoOo color... all of the buttons seem much brighter and, for lack of a better term, XP-like (that can be good or bad, opinions vary)
I'm not sure if this is specific to certain browsers, but the home page is side scrolling for me now, too: Firefox 1.0, OSX

LOL@Corwin.
Enry - I keep getting PMs about the Forum Index on the MAIN page not working (the link is wrong). It's looking like you need to edit a php file to fix it, and since I have no idea how things are set up, I'll leave that to you. :D

You are saying the old attachment thumbs are busted.
Let me look into that.

Kooldino's sig on the home page, extends beyond the box, on to the 'latest thread' box...seems to be the length that extends beyond the parameters of a regular page width...that wasn't a problem before. Also, it went down for a few minutes a minute ago, and Forum Index leads to home....i'll report anything else funky i see...just trying to help.

there are sometimes where i'll get both old and new "icons." Also, with the older version, when I clicked on a thumbnail it would open in a new window (which I liked.) The new version opens the thumbnail in the same window...

does upload work yet? I'll find out in about 5 seconds if it does I suppose.....but all in all, I'm liking the new look alot, and except for a few minor bugs, that are prolly due to my personal comp being fubar, I think everything is going smoothly so far. NICE!!

The user cp used to periodically refresh automatically?
I can always add a Meta tag or JS refresh, but I can't see any place in the admin cp where this option can be set.

im not sure what cp stands for -- but here is my 2 cents on whats happening --
Before the upgrades ------ new posts or threads would be highlighted than the rest to show you that it was new for the day -- you go into one and read or post or both -- you would then back page and everything was all ready refreshed --
Know after the upgrades ---- you come in and see a highlighted thread -- you check it out then back page -- but now when you page back -- its either still highlighted or the post you made does not show --- unless we hit the refresh button ourselves --
so everytime i back page -- i have to refresh the page to see any changes -- its just anoying ---
its just wierd that an upgrade caused there to be no auto page refresh -- (screwy)
I can always add a Meta tag or JS refresh, but I can't see any place in the admin cp where this option can be set.

i guess im lucky i have cable --- i really feel sorry for the 56k ers because some of this stuff takes a sec. or 2 to refresh for me -- can you imagine how frustrating it would be to refresh on a 56k line -- Ouch (smash)
RyanJayG
01-16-2005, 11:50 AM
actually I like the fact it doesn't refresh until I tell it to... I like to go through that list when I first get on to see if there are any threads I've been posting in that are active. then I go, post or read, then hit the back button and I dont want the list to be updated again, making it hard to find the threads I want.. and I mean, common, how hard is it to hit a button?
bonesmp5
01-16-2005, 12:00 PM
dont you use the listed subscriptions option ?? -- that keeps all the threads you posted in -- there is no way you can lose your spot by using it -- i love that option -- (drinks)

OK, PHP and Apache were upgraded to latest and greatest, I noticed a big performance boost, let me know.

the problem only occurs with my Firefox at home - this is the only website/message board (of Ikonboard, phpBB and vBulletin) where it does it - but i'll check all my cookies settings, though - could have something messed up in there.
I'm just curious - attachments now open in the same window, is that a new feature or a bug? Not complaining, just wanna make sure it's intended.
Honestly, I just upgraded vbb. I guess some genius decided to make changes to the standard behaviors. Or I screwed something up.
