Take off your boost controller and don't boost at the wrong time.

how much boost were you running when the engine blew? if they are rebuilding the engine might as well take this opportunity to throw in some forged rods

Get some forged Pistons and Rods and some good rings and bearings. Then some Engine Management would definately help you out.....
oh yeah, don't boost so high, that would certainly help out with no supporting mods what-so-ever.

just leave it alone...the turbo back and intake should be making what 9psi would be on a stock car.

9-10 psi? I thought he was boosting alot more on a stock engine without any engine managment.
My suggestion is to get a SRT-4. Stock set up on the MSP wasnt ment to take alot of power. Its a fact we all have to live with. Its a car with handling and not power. some fuel managment should help...unichip that is pretuned. Many are boosting more with reliability with that unit on stock internals. Or jsut build your motor.
Car is designed for stock boost so if you leave it stock you will have no problem...non once so ever! You have to pay to play.

Doesn't sound like a rod, it would not run it if blew a rod.
What could it have been? White smoke is coolant isn't it? Headgasket?

Sean I wouldnt say too much or post too much about these problems because Mazda does keep tabs on our discussions...you may get someone in trouble...god forbid.
Other then that we have a fantastic relationship with our dealer. They know they are loosing sales to cars such as the SRT-4. Great dealers support for those cars. Tuner cars need supporting staff members who know a thing or 2 about our cars. Cool and helpful employees means more business for them. Sean was lucky about getting it replaced because he drives that car pretty hard. It really comes down to your dealer or employees. I remind them that if people are satified that means more customers....any smart business person would know and adapt. Our GM was talking about forming a car club and we had a mazda meet with food, drinks and givaways. All he wanted was exposure, sales and service maintence. Guess what...dealer got an RX-8 (sold) out of that get together and it only cost him a few hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and some Mazdaspeed hats & key chain.
our local dealer is split up into Nissan and Mazda (good combo). And they have fantastic employees working there. The Nissan dealership is actually making a drag car to get its name out. I remember walking in and seeing this chasis and a titan V8 in it...amazing. I havent been to the MAzda side much but I had alot of friends that worked at Nissan and the GM (nissan) is really into cars....so that helps.
how unfortunate that these cars dont respond well to mods at all. Im very satisfied with stock performance and reliability as nothing has happened to me. But also remember our cars were assembled at port by employees which nigate the quality and consistancy of cars comming form the factory...well that what I would assume with some of the problems. I guess im the lucky one because im about to hit 22K with absolutely no problems (cross fingers and hope for the best). these cars really do put the Boom in Zoom zoom...but im happy and satified with my purchase. Going stock is always the safest.
If youre looking for big numbers either go all out or just buy a car that was ment to handel big numbers.
