I was wondering if a VNT turbo exists that could replace the stock T25 in a mazdaspeed but I'm having trouble finding a full list of garrett products. What kind of management is required to control a VNT? Would it even be worth it to try to swap? I hear they aren't very reliable though, so maybe this is a bad idea. Comments?

as far as I can remember you can control it with a vacuum source but most things I've read always say there are too many moving parts which makes the turbo unreliable and a pain to deal with, basically the cons outweigh the pros

What's a VNT turbo and what are the pros?

Variable Nozzle Turbine, adjusts vanes in the exhuast turbine. So when the rpms are low, the turbo can still spool up very quickly, and when the rpms are high, the vanes themselves move in a position that lets the exhaust pass without the turbo spinning up more. No wastegate needed. Basically, way less turbo lag is the main advantage.

Ah, very cool. Too bad it's not reliable.

VW has used those on TDIs for a while with great success... I've personally seen them run for 200K miles plus, running 21 psi daily. Change the goddamn oil and they will last.

what size is the stock TDI turbo? Im guessing small, but you could find those cheap, and if you were going for a low boost, high compression setup that would be a neat turbo.

no too small. The inlet is like 1.5"

Ask corky... IIRC , he used to sell a kit for miatas back in the day.
I believe that kit is no longer offered though.
Could be for good reason.

There were a few Dodge shadows with VNT turbo's I'm guessing these would be bigger than the VW TDI. Off to do a search...

I was trying to search for a replacemnt, and I thought I saw something called a VNT25 or something, but I couldn't tell if it would replace the stocker or what. Why is it so hard to find a listing of all turbos made by a company w/ specs included?
